If furlough days caused a pay cut...

...then if there are less than 5 furlough days next year, does that mean all Pleasanton teachers will have a pay raise?
And if all teachers have a pay raise, then what will Measure E funds be used for?

I guess that depends on whether you consider the furlough days a pay cut or not.

Many people have stated that furlough days are not a pay cut, so according to them no. But if you consider a pay raise to be an annual salary more that the previous year, then yes. However, (I think) the district can still implement up to 5 furlough days without union negotiations/approval.

But what ever way you look at it, your post is nice bait - no substance, no reason, let's just start a teacher bashing post.

I know a lot of people who have been forced to have "furlough" days - none of them teachers, but rather professionals working in the publishing industry, for the government, private sector...ALL of them consider it as a pay cut. If you earn less money than last year, that's a pay cut! And don't say, "but you have the day off". The work doesn't go away just because your agency/company/district/whatever says you are "furloughed".

Our family had a vacation budgeted, until I was furloughed. Without the expected income, we just stayed home and pulled weeds instead. It was great fun. And I didn't have to work. I'm hoping to get furloughed again.

If this is true, why isn't it in the budget??? Why are they cutting teachers jobs instead of doing this?

PUSD can force 5 furlough days without union support. But that is going to cause huge problems between the district and the teachers. The district is not dumb - if they force the teachers, they will have an incredibly difficult problem on their hands. Teachers will stop volunteering for the extras (think talent show, after school support, you name it). The relationship will be strained and it will take years to repair.

Furlough days will have to go to a union vote. If it passes, everything is done. If it doesn't, then the district can force the issue. But it will be an awful school year.
