"He added that California's costs for implementing the federal health reform law could be as high as $3.5 billion"

States should not be forced to implement Obama's plan unless Obama gives the money for it, which is unrealistic. I hope the health care "reform" gets repealed by the republicans.

As for California: please cut so many welfare services. Do illegal aliesn really need to get free and reduced lunch at school, free medical, etc?

Reform pensions, we can no longer afford to finance so many public employees. If an employee retires, he/she should only receive as much money as he/she put into his/her pension, just like in the private sector.

As for prisons: if it is a conviction beyond reasonable doubt and a serious crime such as murder or rape, shouldn't we be using the death penalty more? And if the death penalty is not an option we should at least get rid of so many goodies for the immates. Why would a criminal have TV? Or other such services that we finance? They should not be allowed to get a free ride after they committed a crime. Treat them in a humane way (feed them, shelter them), but that's it: no free education, no free activities. Make them pay for their crime, not get a free ride.
