Fire stations plan 'open houses' tomorrow to promote home safety

Original post made on Oct 22, 2010

Fire houses in Pleasanton and Livermore will be opening their doors this weekend to promote fire safety. October is Fire Prevention Month and this year's theme is "Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with."

This is a calculated political decision by the public union. Sure this is warm and fuzzy and 'neighborly'. HOWEVER, EVERY ELECTION THEY DO THIS......out of all the other 51 weeks they could pick. Just coincidence....ONLY if you still believe in the easter bunny and santa claus ! ! ! It's a self centered...let's rub elbows plan. It's sad they decided to CHOOSE the rocky road of excess, dividing the community.

First off, October is fire prevention month - everywhere, not just Ptown. November is election month. Perhaps you think Thanksgiving is a subversive union plot to sell more turkeys. Also all of the fire bosses in town are not in a union, dolt. I'm so tired of the mindless retoric... My 401k's in the toilet because of banks, insurance, democrats, and robber-baron CEOs. Not because a CalTrans worker who works 30yrs sucking in exhaust fumes earns a $60k/yr pension. You people kill me. If union jobs are so great, why in the heck don't you apply for one.

THIS discussion is about FIRE , which in CA is classified "safety" as is LAW enforcement !...not cal trans ! A newly hired kid's pay package in the Pleasanton fire dept is OVER $100,000.oo in the FIRST elsewhere in CA. So your $60k is a phony smoke screen. This topic is 2010 FIRE, NOT 1980 Cal Trans. PLEASE, stick to the facts. We'll chalk it up to ignorance, rather than intentional dishonesty. And, yes, it is fire month in ALL of CA, as are the union exesses which applies to all of Ca. (Moonbeam jerry Brown created PUBLIC unions in Ca when he was then gov....that was a very BAD EXPERIENCE I don't want to relive!)

Sorry "Fire Facts", but you're not even close. Try less than half of that figure for a newly-hired firefighter in Pleasanton.

I work for one of the fire departments in Santa Clara County, a department that pays more than Livermore-Pleasanton Fire, and I can honestly tell you that there is no fire department in California that pays a newly-hired firefighter over $100K per year. I've been with my department for 12 years, and I've never made anywhere close to $180K, even with overtime.

Also, Fire Prevention Month, which happens the first two weeks of every October nationwide, is run by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The NFPA and the union are two completely different organizations.

I suggest that you get your facts straight before you post more misinformed "facts" about the fire service.

Reread again carefully...... $180,000.oo first year PACKAGE, with paying for your retirement, medical, etc. You all intentionally try to deceive, but somebody's usually around to correct, then it makes your case worse.

The TOTAL COMPENSATION for a top-step firefighter in the highest paying fire department in the San Francisco Bay Area (no, it's not the LPFD) is thousands short of your $180,000 "PACKAGE". Total compensation includes ALL pay: retirement, all medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, uniform allowance, etc.

A top-step firefighter in the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department makes MUCH LESS than a top-step firefighter for that higher-paying fire department, and a newly-hired probationary firefighter with the LPFD makes MUCH LESS than a top-step firefighter in the LPFD.

This information is accessible to the public, and can be easily found on the internet. I was able to find the 2010 numbers with about five seconds of searching with my home computer.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
