What started out as a routine TB test required of all Pleasanton school district employees about every four years turned into much more than that for popular Foothill High School choral teacher and choir director JoAnn Koobatian, her husband Richard and their daughter Amanda, now 7.

Jeb, Thank-you for writing such a wonderful story about JoAnn, who is a true inspiration to us all. As a former Foothill High School teacher and current elementary school music specialist, I have had many occasions to work with this wonderful, energetic woman. She is a fighter and will certainly beat this disease. With the help of her students, family, and friends, she will continue to be that spark to all that she touches. Blessings, Susan Klas

Thanks for writing this story to let others in our community know how they too can help and contribute to the funds. "Ms. K" as her students and many parents call her, is an inspiring, tireless fighter and amazing role model. Even with all of her (temporary, we're sure!) health challenges, she has more energy, determination, vision and dedication to her students and her craft than most people. She is truly a blessing to all of us lucky enough to know her on any level... I hope our community contributes generously to her fund! And a public thank you to Vicky Binder, who "gets" what needs to be done and then does it. Thanks also go to Trinity Lutheran Church and pastor Beard and his wife who generously donated and helped to make the concert possible!

Dear Jeb,
You often touch the heartbeat of the community but this piece on Joann is a perfect balance of information and compassion. Joann is a super-woman who inspires and stirs the creative and musical spirit in our youth - therefore she deserves every bit of recognition for her work as well as for her health challenges and I think your article achieves a healthy balance. My family and everyone at our music academy (at which her daughter Amanda is a student) wishes "Mrs. K" a full and speedy recovery!
