Livermore Community Garden
Comments on Stories, posted by Christian, a resident of the Stoneridge neighborhood, on Jul 27, 2010 at 12:45 pm

Reading the latest Livermore Independent's story on their Community Garden project, I'm curious as to why perhaps, Pleasanton hasn't begun a similiar project. Certainly there is enough open space and available plots that are underutilized. With a growing concern over the health and wellness of our youth, coupled with the learnings associated with growing fresh produce, it can be a transforming experience and lead a child towards healthier choices. As well as consideration to environmental impact.

Hi Christian. Pleasanton has had community garden plots at Val Vista Park since 2004. Take a hike down Stoneridge, turn south onto Johnson Drive, go into the park and take a look! You'll love it. The gardeners there are absolute artists with their flowers and vegetables, and they take great pride in their patches. There's a waiting list for the patches there, so if you have a good idea where another community garden should be located please come to a Parks and Recreation Commission meeting and make a suggestion! The Commission would love to hear from you.
