Next AHVS Principal - Jim Hansen? Schools & Kids, posted by AVHSFan, a member of the Amador Valley High School community, on Jun 28, 2010 at 4:56 pm
Hearing thru the grapevine that Jim Hansen, current principal at Harvest Park, is slated to become principal at Amador Valley High School, replacing the retiring Bill Coupe. Can anyone confirm this? Was there an announcement?

My kids heard it from a couple of their teachers that Jim Hansen is the new principal. We're happy - Jim's a great guy and very visible to the kids. Very rarely can you find him in his office, he's always out visiting the classrooms or walking around talking to the kids. I hope it's true!

Jim ran a sweet middle school, but he avoided confrontation and big decisions. He wanted everyone to win. In the end, alot of teachers and students lot.
We needed a tougher person for AVHS to handle all the ongoing and yet-to-be seen issues with teachers, students, and kids.
I'm glad my kids graduated and are out of the entire PUSD system. It's a good system, but I don't like the look of the budget or personnel.

Thrilled for all of AVHS, Jim Hansen will be a fantastic addtion to our community. Welcome to the Dons! He can be tough as nails when he needs to, just because you don't see a stern exterior don't think for one minute anyone will walk all over him at AVHS.

Yippee!!!! I think AVHS is very lucky to have Jim. He can definitely be tough if he needs to be. His biggest asset is his visibility to the students. That will be a welcome change. Coupe was a nice man, but not a people person and Jim is, so --- Yippee!

Great news about Jim Hansen. He's an awesome guy, and his communication skills will be a big upgrade for the AVHS principal's role. I believe Jim graduated from AVHS, so this would be a homecoming of sorts.

Yeah for Jim Hansen! Absolutely love Mr. Hansen! (But we were really hoping Rick Sira would get the Principal position. Rick is a great administrator, tough when he has to be, fair, great listener, personable, approachable, and great friend to many. He would then have to give up Head Football Coach - with all due respect to Sira, would be the greatest thing that happened to Amador football...) Any news if there can be a new Head Football Coach??

This is great news! My children went through Harvest Park and loved Mr.Hansen. I am so sad that this is going to be my sons senior year....i wish this could have happened 3 years ago.

Jim Hansen is an absolutely terrific choice for AVHS! He is a terrific guy with a great wife and
three kids! He has so much experience at all levels. He has also coached basketball, track and swimming! Lucky AVHS! [Portion removed because it referred to a deleted post]

As a frequent volunteer at Amador I can tell you that morale was way down under the last principal. I truly believe that the board must have known that Amador needed a spectacular leader and that is why Jim Hansen was chosen. Any other candidate would have brought more of the same as they worked closely with the former principal.
I am thankful for this choice and I believe the staff will be thrilled. I know the kids are beyond happy. My son could not even tell me the name of the former principal. Any time I ever went to the office the former principal was sitting at his desk or sitting in the office of a VP with his feet up.
I wish Jim Hansen the best of luck, high school can be a crazy place.

Can't tell you how excited my kids are about this. That school has been crying for some leadership and direction. The last poster about "Do Nothing Coupe" was dead on. That man did nothing for that school. Amador is filled with talented teachers that were not mentored or encouraged by Coupe. Yay! For the Amador community. It will be a different and much better place now.
