Which side of the fence are you on?

Original post made by Pablo, Birdland, on Jun 28, 2010

Which side of the fence?
If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a Conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a Conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

When a conservative goes to a wedding he's looking for his 3rd wife

When a conservative has tooth decay he's the shinning example in his toothless family

When a conservative goes hunting it's for next years vitals

When a conservative plays banjo in the woods he's out hunting for democratic hunter to woo and fondle

When a conservative has a family reunion it's usually at Folsom during visiting hours

When a conservative drinks and drives he usually tells the officer it's good to see him again.

When a conservative has you pull his finger its because the bell for dinner time is missing

When a conservative votes for Sarah Palin it's cause she's so doggone purty and winks and says all kinds of stuff his ma use to say before she got arrested for bar hopping

When a conservative swats a fly its usually his girl friend sitting next to him (bar fly - get it?)

When a sane citizen comes across a conservative, yep, they laugh.

Now Bud, be nice. Pablo gets a little confused... forgets things like Democrats that die for our country and some even received the Congressional Medal of Honor... things like that.

more conservative, you forgot one: every time you believe pull a marble out of jar. When you lost your marbles, you are a conservative.

Folks, if you have to resort to generalities such as Pablo's, then you likely do not have the capacity to articulately argue your points. Chances are that the Democrats, like me, probably agree with you conservatives on many things, such as a strong defense, fairness, age-appropriate school materials for our children in our public schools, anti-gerrymandering (such as let the 11th Congressional District remain in the Central Valley and Dublin sharing the same County supervisor with Livermore & Pleasanton) and crack down on welfare fraud.

If you think Pablo was trying to be funny, he was but, face it, he had an ulterior motive too.

This country has become as divisive as I can remember. Far more name calling than can ever be useful. This country is being adversely affected on so many fronts but that is why, as a free country, we can decide what direction to head in, what the right solutions should be and who to represent us in that vision. These generalities about conservatives versus liberals tend to degrade the arguments in juvenile banter.

Mike of County Fair neighborhood....Are you serious? being sarcastic? Because what you described is more like communism than being a democrat.

Instead of racial profiling, you all seem to be political profiling. Lumping all the conservatives in one group and the Democratics in the other. And, since when is it Conservative and not Republican? Being a conservative is value system/adjective not a political party.

Glad we're all mature enough to enjoy the teasing, reminds me of my grammar school days here in P-town.

Maja7,

I am very serious. I do not understand why we all need to work and provide for ourselves. When I was younger I used to think otherwise and then I saw others being supported by the system and at first thought it was wrong until I lost my job and was ashamed of applying for unemployment. I finally did and was instructed on all of the other items available to me as one without a job. It is there to be used and not ignored. Our elected officials are all millionaires and as such can provide more for us that we can. I have not paid a dime in taxes in the last few years and plan to go as long as I can not paying into the system.

I see a lot of truth in Pablo's observations. You are right Maja. It should just be Republican. Most people calling themselves conservative these days are clueless to what it originally meant. They are not real conservatives, who would be against laws controlling behavior....many don't see the hypocrisy in themselves.

Mike,
You and I are on opposite sides of the fence. I think we incent people not to work and to game the system. It is not our responsibility to provide for those less fortunate, I think it is our responsibility to provide opportunity for those less fortunate to improve their situation (i.e. educational subsidies, work development programs, etc).

To Mike from the Country Fair Neighborhood...

What you are describing is a call motto the North used to encourage our troop to come to the other side and we will take care of you. The words were "Chieu Hoy" (pronounced) Choo Hoy. Come to the other side of the fence. It got me sick to my stomach when I see how many people have moved to the other side and take every hand out possible...It has become a way of life in this Country. Work...hell no, let the other fools do it...I will do just fine taking all I can get from those hard working fools.

It's true folks...this is the new order of life in America.

Thanks for listening...Julia from Alamo, Ca

No I have not read the communist manifesto but these programs are all put in place for our use and if they are there why shouldn't I use them? It is not against the law and they actually instructed you what you are eligible for. I sent my daughter down and she also was able to get free assistance from the government. I do not know why people care because it is just the governments money anyway.

I am sorry but it is not I/your hard earned money. The money is printed by the government for use by the government. President Obama is just trying to take care of all of us like he said he would and is living up to that promise. The money is plentiful and it is not a problem.

DublinMike,
Sorry to say but I think you confused my response to one of the two Mikes incorrectly...I was responding to Mike of County Fair whereas, your correction to me referred to Mike of Alisal Elementary (which I wasn't commenting on)....In fact, I agree with Mike, of Alisal Elementary. All the name calling does nothing in moving us,a society of thinking adults, closer to solutions/compromises.

My comment was to the other Mike, you see....I don't agree with, the other Mike (County Fair), where we as a people/generation feel it's okay to live off of/milk the system just because it's there. It's that exact mentality, the degrading of the work ethic, that will be the ruin of our country. I've been working since I was 8 in a family-owned business. It taught me a strong work ethic, something that I think is sorely lacking in our society thesedays.

Mike of County Fair,

I was sorry to read that I did not read your comment incorrectly. Does that make sense? I was raised to take pride in being able to take care of myself and later in life, my family. I think it's morally wrong to "milk" the system just because it's there.

Of course, I have compassion for anyone, yourself included, that has lost or loses a job and I do feel strongly that our society as a whole should be there to provide a "safety net" for the unemployed UNTIL they can get back on their feet again. But, it is in the individual's best interest to provide for himself/herself because what the government gives,it can easily take away. I, myself, do not like to be dependent on the government.

I pay taxes every year so that our society can run effectively. Perhaps, if more people felt as I do and not as you, our financial situation would not be so dire right now.

Just a thought.....

One last thing, the Government's money is "Our Money"...meaning the people that pay taxes. So, for those that don't pay taxes, like Mike from County Fair, when he says it isn't 'his money', he's telling the truth. He is quite proud of the fact that he hasn't paid taxes for a couple of years!! How does that make the rest of us feel? Angry?

It's when I hear this mentality and how proud he is of his juicing the system that I am glad to see some of the programs dismantled or given less tax dollars.....

I have compassion for the down & out....... not the individuals taking advantage of the system.

Mike from Country Fair: do you think the government just prints money when it needs it? If so, you need to so some reading on all that spare time you have.Where do you think ALL the money that you are as Maja7 states 'juicy the system' comes from? OUR TAXES!!

I have NO problem helping people, we give A LOT of our annual income to organizations and individuals who really need it, but am SICKENED when people talk as you about being taken care of by 'the government' just because they CAN. You really need to do some reasearch on how 'the government' get's money. It's not printed and it DOESN'T grow in a tree in my back yard. Read the back of your tax booklet when it comes....oh...wait...that's right you don't pay TAXES!!!

Obama is NOT your savior. Neither is 'the government' IE...my tax money.

I sure do believe that I should be supported by the government if I so choose and I also believe that the government prints whatever money it needs. The currency is not tied to anything otherwise we would not have been able to build up 14,000,000,000,000,000 in debt without backing it up with anything. Ask yourself a question????? Money is just colored paper printed by whatever government issues it. Nothing but barter and that is all it is.

I just don't know what to say about the provocative statements and beliefs of Mike/County Fair!!! It is unreal to me that an individual would give over their personal freedoms & integrity to a government entity, any government entity. Rather than all pile on Mike/County Fair, I think we should pray for him and ourselves.

The "colored paper" that Mike/Country Fair talks about is simply that, colored paper. At least, to him, because he does not see the intrinsic value of working for something, achieving for himself rather than suckling at the Government teet.

It's a sad state of our society, sad.......once the government has this strong of mind-hold on an individual, it's hard for them to see a better way to live, reach their potential, be a contributor to our society rather than a drain on it.

It's been a real eye-opener for me.....I will start believing all the stories I read about multiple generations on welfare, etc....I'm thinking I'm done with this rant.

GOD BLESS AMERICA ! FREEDOM ISN'T FREE! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!

I do not view it was breaking others backs. I used to pay taxes and now just getting my money back rather than seeing it go overseas to support god knows what in the way of causes, Croatia troops, wars in Afghanistan, aid for africa etc. It truly is paper and stands for nothing other than that. Did you know if your kids work but fall below a certain threahold they qualify for food stamps and various types of welfare? The combined total of all of these perks comes to a net after tax income of about 60K per year. Very easy if they are servers and able to hide taxable income or a liquor store who never rings anything up or shuts the till. Mark my words, as the government takes more and more of income through increased taxation you will see more and more done with cash.

Your last comment really tells me that you are very dissatified with how our government spends "the colored paper" and you see no value in it, so you are juicing the system. Well, good for you. For the rest of us, however, we see value in an honest day's work and pride in ourselves and in being people of integrity.

All's I can say is I wish you well in your life as I know you wish me well. Thanks for the eye-opener. Okay...now I'm done.

The comments here clearly demonstrate that this country is more divided than ever. And Mike, let me ask you a question? Have you been watching the events in Greece? They gave their citizens free healthcare, free educations, 6 weeks paid vacation every year - sounds great right? Well guess what? They government ran their debt up to 125% of their GDP and then their economy went in the tank and they couldn't get anyone to loan them any more money to pay for all their free entitlement programs. So now, the country is broke, and their citizens are rioting in the streets because they want all their free stuff. Is that what you want to happen here? We're headed that way, the U.S. Has a debt to GDP ratio approaching 90% and Obama and Congress show no signs of slowing down. The worst thing that could happen to this country is for half the people to say (like you) "why should I work when I can get somebody else to pay my way?" and the other half to say "why should I work when I don't get to enjoy the fruits of my labor?". Everyone riding in the wagon and no one left to pull it. Your ideas are straight out of the Communist Manifesto. Ever wonder why the U.S.S.R. finally fell? Everyone riding in the wagon, and no one left to pull it. Get a clue, Mike. And those of you who resort to personal attacks on people who hold opposing views do so because you can't actually have a reasoned debate or even try to see things from the other side of the table. Get a life.

A couple of things to ponder. What is the purpose of working when you have the choice of not working? Wouldn't you rather sleep in, stay up late, play golf, spend time with the kids etc? Secondly, if it is not paper money and totally under the control of the government then explain how the debt can be 14T and no inflation? Because the government controls the interest rates and monetary value is tied to nothing other than what the government wants it to be...........wake up people! You are living the "Truman Show". Lastly, I am not a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, but rather an anarchist and there are a lot of us I might add.

Mike, you have no idea what monetary and fiscal policy entails and obviously no knowledge of the history of financial crises. Nor did you address any of the issues I raised regarding the collapse of Greece and the U.S.S.R. Do yourself a favor, since you have so much free time on your hands and pick up a book called "It's Different This Time", it will give you a good history lesson on global financial meltdowns. Also, read "The End of Prosperity" by Arthur Laffer. Then maybe you'll be able to speak intelligently on the subject. Anarchist, huh? You live in a selfish world of theories that have nothing to do with reality.

TK,

it is all about power and who is in power. Only the little people in Russia and Greece have suffered and will suffer but eventually the downtrodden will rise and the result will be notable. Do you honestly believe that our government has our best interests in mind or their own? Truly think about it. Going back to 1950 we have probably only had 2 moral Presidents, Truman and Reagan, the rest have been just jokes just out for themselves and their cronies. Watch carefully what is happening in the streets of Athens and in the streets of Toronto because it is just a very very very small precurser of what is coming. There is a real reason why the liberals want to take the guns out of the hands of citizens and it has nothing to do with crime or accidental shootings. They see what is coming and it is not going to be pretty. So you go ahead and stick your head in the sand, read your books written by others, adopt their thoughts and not your own and move forward. Me on the other hand, will develop my own opinions on what I see and hear going on and react as actions dictate.

When I read what Mike said and really think about it he makes some sense. Not the living off the government program aspects but the portions which refer to the future. I mean the current administrations idea of creating jobs is extending jobless benefits and increasing taxes. I do not believe that young disenfranchised youth are going to stand by unemployed for a long period of time without there being a significant amount of violence. Our government is currently sitting on a powderkeg and the level of hatred towards public officials is amazing. It is a matter of time before contempt spewing elected officials like Biden, Stark, Pelosi are dealt with..........it will happen.
