New Info: Obama Refuses Help by Dutch to Clean Up Oil Spill 3 Days After Accident... State, National, International, posted by Amy, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Jun 10, 2010 at 11:56 am
This is further evidence that Obama is not interested in protecting America's interests. He is bent on its destruction...and succeeding.
You won't see this reported on mainstream media.
Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.
It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.
The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston.
This is further evidence that supports the claim that Obama is not interested in protecting America's interests. He is bent on its destruction...and succeeding.

Amy -- The Dutch offer was declined by US Maritime Administration for a couple of valid reasons.
A federal law called the Jones Act of 1920 requires that all goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships, thus preventing the Dutch ships from entering U.S. coastal areas.
This same law allows U.S. seamen to bring legal action against ship owners based on claims of unseaworthiness or negligence. These rights have been extended in previous civil and criminal cases to include oil rig workers. This is the only way that the families of the 11 dead rig workers can pursue BP for damages.
The only time that this law was suspended for a national emergency was after Katrina. It was waived for 18 days to allow foreign ships carrying oil and natural gas into US coastal waters, and nothing else.
I am afraid that your "evidence" that Obama is out to destroy this country is nonsense.

Dear Apologist for Our Marxist Obama....TRUDY:
Soooo answerlady, do tell. What is your excuse for Obama's "do nothing" approach since the spill? Oh, sorry...he has done a lot...like organize a group of attorneys who are ready to file suit...criminal suit...against BP. He has also assembled a small group to 'study' the leak. Results to be forthcoming sometime in 2011 I expect.
That's right, he's also manufactured an attempt at looking angry also...for the press. (I think his teleprompters said "Now fake an angry look...and toss out a crass comment like 'kicking some ass' too".
All those regs you cited above could have been waived at the drop of Obama's hat...but no.

Amy -- I have been reading your posts for some time, assuming that those posts by "Amy" are mostly yours, and have noticed a marked deterioration in your intellectual and rhetorical skills. Your anger has become so unfocused and irrational that it saddens me, really. If you had taken 5 minutes before posting any one of your most recent mean spirited rants and edited them into debatable issues, I would be happy to continue this line of discussion with you. As it is, my efforts would be wasted.
Take a page from Jim F's style book, and make some sense before posting.

it is not nonsense if the law could be suspended once -- it could be suspended again,no? the articles that followed up on this say the dutch equipment was flown over and attached to US ships, a waste of precious time. idk if it is evidence of allowing a disaster ala Rahm rahmbo emmanuel, never let a crisis go to waste, but it is at the very least ineptitude.
no fire booms in the gulf, no MMS oversight, no help allowed in per forieng offers, no quick action on building sand bars. That is the party of no.

Jim01 is a very good guy...and also a very patient in putting up with you leftists.
I don't have as much patience with leftists ... primarily because I don't have many more years remaining. However, since our "esteemed" (fraud of a) President has now made it acceptable to state crude remarks...then I doubt that our PW editors would censor me...
I could debate any of you leftists...but would strongly prefer kicking your (probably huge) asses.

Your arguments, would have much more credibility if you could express yourself without resorting to name calling, and the use of bad information based on assumption, self drawn conclusions, and Op ED. By all means keep contributing, but please try to be more clear, and use facts to back up your statements.

Thank you Trudy, I think? Go get 'em Amy. It comes fast and furious in here, I have to ignore most of the goofballs, like when Cholo is in here (COMMENT REMOVED).
A very few want to have any type of serious discussion, the main problem for them is they do not have TRUTH on their side.
That said, you got it right on this topic, there are many sources on this story from huffpo, dutch news, etc. so the facts are not in dispute.
The only point they make is when you drop to their level and name call, you are less effective, but they fail to point out it is pot calling the kettle black, because when they have no argument they complain about name calling, or ignore you, or call you a wingnut Glenn Beck watcher. Attack the attacker.
Obama is losing on this story in the mainstream media because of the failures of his administration, as radical pointed out above.

Glad to see you here, Jim.
To add some background, I moved to Pleasanton four years ago to help my daughter and son in law raise their young family after my husband died. He was in the Merchant Marines for 37 years. I do know the Merchant Marine Act inside and out. It provides for the safety and welfare of tens of thousands of Americans every day, and the families of the 11 dead rig workers can use it to seek compensation in Federal court. This is their least costly, most severe and most immediate recourse.
I was not apologizing for a communist and I am not an idiot. I want BP to pay for the lost lives, and keeping the Jones Act in force guarantees that.

Sorry to hear of your loss, and I hope you register and continue to contribute to constructive discussion. I do not excuse BP from responsibility. At the same time, accidents do happen, and a corporation shouldn't go out of business because of an accident, and our federal government shares responsibility for not fulfilling their prescribed role in oversight and response to this. Every day, step by step, their "day one" mantra is being destroyed. Obama has to man up.
