On the one hand, I'm very sorry to read that the planned opening for the softball and baseball season has been postponed. Must be tough for those who had participated in the event planning and also for the kids who were looking forward to the season start.
On the other hand, we do need the rain, despite the inconvenience of the delays.
And on the OTHER hand, thank you to the Pleasanton Weekly staff for learning a lesson from the past year(s) and mentioning that the girls' softball team is also to be included and acknowledged. A good start for the season ahead.
And when the sun shines again for more than two days in a row and the fields dry out a bit... PLAY BALL!!

You're absolutely right 'lesson learned,' as soon Lisa Hagopian's crew can get the fields ready to be played on we'll hear "Play Ball!" And in the meantime, thank goodness for the rain. How many hands do you have, by the way? I counted at least three or four!

Why do girls play softball and not baseball? What's the big deal about letting girls play baseball, even if it is still a girl only thing? I don't see why they have to play with different equipment.

Couple years ago there was a little league team that practiced near my house that had three girls on the team. They could compete with the boys with no problems. They were better than many of the boys...
After watching the softball pitchers at FHS, I wouldn't step up to the plate against them. They would make me look silly...:)

The same with soccer...girls can kick just as hard, far, and accurately as the boys...I've watched girls play soccer and they're just as tough as the boys all over the world...yup, let the fun begin!
