"Kick for the Cure" soccer game Jan 2, 2010
Around Town, posted by Joe Carlucci, a resident of the Pleasanton Meadows neighborhood, on Dec 27, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Amador Valley High School Men's soccer will be playing the "Kick for the Cure" soccer game on January 2nd vs Richmond HS. Game times are 11:00 (JV) and 1:00 (varsity). The game has 3 goals in mind:

1)Honoring Susan Dawson, a long time community and booster volunteer who recently passed away due to breast cancer.

2)To raise breast cancer awareness in the community.

3)To raise money for the Ryan Comer Cancer Library at ValleyCare.

Susan was a well-known and tireless volunteer in the community, and at the service celebrating her life, the "Kick for the Cure" game was born. Admission is free to watch two of the top teams in the East Bay square off, and many other activities are planned for the day. There will be items for purchase, including book angels honoring Susan and pink hoodies; the snack bar will be open; and there will be health professionals on hand with educational materials on breast cancer screening and care.

It is sure to be an inspirational day, and we want to pack the stands. This is the culmination of the efforts of many, including AV men's and women's soccer teams, AV leadership, ValleyCare, and many other groups. If you are a soccer fan, a Pleasanton fan, knew Susan, know someone who has fought breast cancer, or just want to be part of a great day, please try to make it out to AVHS Saturday January 2nd. Activities will be going on between 10 AM and 3 PM.

Hope to see you there.
