Democrats, where would you draw the line? When is there too much government control in the US?

Original post made by ! on Nov 21, 2009

Sincerely, at what point would our Federal govt become too controlling, too big, too powerful over our private lives? You Democrats want the Fed to have more and more control. Please tell me what your limit is now that the US Constitution firewall has been breached?

"The goal of socialism is communism." Lenin

We will soon be unmistakably a socialist country after the passage of Obamacare which will likely happen. Along the continuum toward communism, what would stop us from arriving there under Obama?

At what point would you say STOP? This is a sincere question.

When the government steps in and declares that companies is too big to fail and use tax dollars to bail them out, the government has stepped away from free markets.

When the Federal Reserve (not officially the government) picks winners and losers in the financial industry by buy 1.3 trillion worth of mortgage backed securities with reserves meant for controlling monetary policy, then we are moving toward a system that Lenin had not even imagined. It isn't socialism or communism, any more than the system of government in China is communism, but is bad, and limits our freedom. Most (but not all) Republicans and Democrats are the problem. McCain/Palin would have done nothing to stop this huge government intervention in the market.

It is time for an alternative.

Listen Up Here:

No one wants a Government that is too much in control over our private lives, Democrat or Republican.

I really want to know exactly what Obama has actually done that constitutes being too powerful over our lives. The Tea Party, the Glenn Beck movement and all associated "constitutionalists" movements are ALL based upon fear and what if scenarios.

Really, we lost our freedoms and our anonymity due to the Bush Administration. Why were you not all freaking out then?

For decades we have had cops who beat people, judges who decide our lives and the lives of our children in divorce etc.

Democrats far from follow a leader blindly, so don't kid yourself.

When is a government to controlling? When do we really as a people loose our freedoms? When the Government controls our bodies and who we can and cant marry in part. Thats whats so ironic about Republicans.

Wow! Have you not noticed that the roads you drive on, the schools most children go to, Universities, the national parks, the VA, and SOCIAL Security are Government run? So, have we not been a "Socialist" nation all along?

"Of particular contentiousness to moderates is a provision for the government to sell insurance in competition with private companies, subject to state approval — a part of Reid's bill expected to come under significant pressure as the debate unfolds."

Gee this really sounds like a total socialist government takeover of all our constitutional rights and privacy!

Wake Up Paranoids!

Comrade Pelosi and Comrade Reid do not know I'm posting this, so pardon my haste. What you say is true. We democrats are all secretly in league with our dear friend Comrade Obama, prime delegate from Kenya, to eradicate the scourge of american democracy and with the help of the UN and ACORN replace it with the purest form of socialism known to mankind. Our grand master Karl Marx himself will rise from his grave in a show of solidarity for finally putting his grand plans into practice. Our plans are nearly complete and soon we will have you all in our grasps and then you'll finally experience THE TRUE POWER OF THIS FULLY ARMED AND OPERATIONAL BATTLE STATION!!! YOU MAY FIRE WHEN READY, COMMANDER! Oh wait...wrong movie. Um...how bout YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR LACK OF VISION...oh yeah, same wrong movie. Return of the Jedi not gonna cut it? Hmmm...maybe you can watch reruns of 24 to feed your delusions...or better yet, spend a few hours with fox and friends!

Poster Boy:
With the exception of your above post, you've actually attempted to make sense in the past (tho I have only disagreed with 150% of your comments).

Now that you've gotten your chuckle from your above smartass post, would you care to answer the question...of just how much government control is enough and at what point does it become too much for you?

I ask this because I really do not know...since there seems to be no boundary line the Obama Admin does not want to cross.

They want to control our banking, auto, healthcare (including whether we should live or die prenatally or as a senior), manufacturing, communications, energy, education...their lust for control over our lives seemingly has no bounds.

Do tell me what your boundary lines are and where does the Constitution fit in with your ideals too?

I'll tell you how much government control I want.

1. Put the Glass-Steagall Act back in place. It is federal government restrictions on banks and financial institutions. It had been working just fine since 1933.

Web Link

2. Put the uptick rule back in place. More federal regulation of business that had been working well since 1938.

Web Link

3. Reverse the deregulation of derivatives trading in Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000. Law restricting CDC had been working well since before 1920.

Web Link

That would be a good start. Next we could cap the pay of all executives at companies bailed out by the government to no more than the GS-15 government rate.

Yo Dipstick.

Uh, these actions all started under the Bush Administration and almost all financial experts deemed these actions totally necessary to avoid what would have been a total collapse of our Country, as well as most other Countries at that point!

Dont kid yourselves that our country has been saved because in my view it is quite the opposite. I believe Obama and Nancy and friends are doing this on purpose. They hate the United States and are trying to destroy it and doing a nice job of it.

Sorry, I'm not a Democrat or a Republican for that matter. I would posit that neither party would draw any lines as to how far they would go. Politicians do what they think will get them elected, reelected, or derive a personal benefit from. While there may be a few out there who want to do the right thing, what is the right thing? Everyone has different opinions about what is right and usually from their own perspective it is right for them. You can't legislate morality. You can try to redistribute wealth through taxes, but ultimately become poorer as a result. The minority loses to the mob. Individual freedom and non-aggressive interactions are my nirvana, which may be idealistic, but at least a principle for discourse. Government can't operate in that domain because it uses aggression to achieve it's goals.
