You forgot the Boys! Around Town, posted by Aa Former Beauty, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Jan 21, 2008 at 12:34 pm
My trusty Pleasanton Weekly informs me that, after 20 years of resting in peace, the Miss Alameda County pageant is being resurrected. Now we can check out the salient features of the humans in swim suits who will try to win scholarships by exhibiting those features to all and sundry. (And so far inland from an ocean-front boardwalk where swim suits were appropriate.)
But we're neglecting the boys! Who wouldn't want to see a line up of lovely young gentlemen in their Speedos, exhibiting their handsome pectoral muscles, etc., and regaling us with their talents.
Tell me: Is this event to be held in the Fairgrounds livestock judging area, where each summer children exhibit their 4H hogs?

That's sad. We haven't come very far when it comes to girls, (and women.) Look around at the covers of DVD's in video stores. We call rape, or near-rape, implied-rape, entertainment.
I saw a Goosebumps paperback cover in the children's section of the library with a picture of a girl, about 13, looking scared and wearing a midriff baring shirt, and a leering, adult male behind her. This cover implies a potential molestation of a child. Americans love sex (who is it 'sexual' for?) crimes against girls and women for viewing, and in this case reading, pleasure.
Look at how women and female children in Hollywood movies, and American TV shows, dress. Men and boys get to dress like they're people. Women and girls have to dress to show their bodies, they get to be sexual objects. Then parents allow their girls to dress like this. We are a screwed-up culture.

There are tens of thousands of male and female pedophiles in the US. They rape boys and girls. Thousands and thousands of boys have been raped by men and women. Boys are also treated like meat and they are trafficked into the US by the thousands. American born children are also sexually abused daily by fellow American.
It is sad Amy that so many people are indifferent to the sexual violence against girls, boys and vulnerable adults.

There is an EXCELLENT BOOK BY DR. MELISSA FARLEY, Prostitution, Trafficking and Traumatic Stress. A MUST READ! The introduction is by Judith Herman, MD of Harvard. I DARE ANYBODY TO READ IT.
