Not only should they go after the idiot that posted it, but anyone who voted yes. They should all have a nice little chat with the SS.

You know these people are stupid, but damn, it's a sickness at this point.

We're not even close to the depth and breadth of hatred that was shown to the previous President. Chill.

With the increased reports of death threats and now this outrageous poll, it's clear that President Obama faces an entirely different level of threat than previous Presidents. Dislike or even hatred is one thing; actual threats take it to a whole new and totally unacceptable level. This is new ground, in part due to changes in technology and communication, in part due to extremist rhetoric, but it must be dealt with swiftly and seriously.

Disagreements are part of our democratic society. I do not condone such threats to anyone be it the homeless or the President. There is no place for such threats. Whether one is a Patriot Liberal or a Patriot Conservative. The Secret Service should investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

"Dark Corners",

Are you saying the secret service shouldn't investigate? This goes way beyond free speech.

Do you folks really take a poll conducted on Facebook, or any other "open" internet site, seriously...

After reading the comments/opinions posted on the different threads, would you take the results of a poll conducted on this PW forum seriously...

No matter what my opinion of the subject being polled may be, I can sit at this keyboard and vote in a manner that's intended to stir the pot - then sit back and giggle at the response...

Create a poll asking if _____________(you fill in the blank)should be harmed and you will have people that have no idea who the person you named might be, vote "yes"...

Where's the article that was used to create the original post...

"a reader",

You ask a fair question, but that was not the point of my comment. To claim a facebook poll as evidence for the claim made in the heading of this thread is weak at best, and is even weaker relative to the actions displayed against the prior President.

As for your question, all threats against the US President should be investigated.

Aside from the stupid poll, there's only 2 things that could be worse, if Obama died from something like an assasination attempt (or lung cancer, for that matter): 1) Joe Biden as president; 2) if something happened to President Joe, Pelosi would be President.
Those possibilities are really even more scary than what's happening to our country already.......

That's how many felt about Sarah Palin too. The difference was, of course, McCain's age compared with Obama's.

Patriot Liberal's title to his/her post is exactly what continues to divide people on these boards.

To PL...Conservative Hatred Escalates? Really, could you try to be a little MORE inflamatory? Clearly your objective is to further divide this country. I see a post like yours and I wonder why anyone would want to encourage the dividing of our country any more than it already is? Really, just what is your objective with such a post? Quite frankly, posts like yours only proves that your self-imposed "Patriot" moniker could not be further from reality.

Instead, why not use this incident as a conversation to unite opposing camps and highlight one of the things liberals and conservatives do have in common, such as the fact that just about every American would be horrified to have come across this poll? No matter how you feel about this or any other President, you'd be UN-AMERICAN to post such a poll, vote on such a poll, or in any way condone such a poll.

It's not a left-right, liberal-conservative issue. Stop trying so hard to make it one.

What a terrible thing for Facebook to do, not to mention dangerous. I can't get over the things that are being allowed as far as opposing President Obama. Can you imagine if someone, esp. a black person, had gone to a protest rally against GW Bush, with an assault rifle?! That person would have been immediately tackled, arrested, and would probably still be in prison today (either that or he'd have been immediately shot himself.) Yet it was legal and lawful for people to attend an event where President Obama was speaking possessling weapons! I didn't care for Bush but would never have wanted to see him hurt, despite the damage his policies did to our country.

You folks realize that Facebook is a pretty lame social networking tool, right? And that whoever started that poll is probably pissing his pants in some smoky windowless room, waiting to be waterboarded (and rightfully so).

I'm one of the more outspoken critics of Obama and Obamamania, and even I think that this is:

- Stupid of the person who put it up
- Stupid of the people who voted (either way), thereby validating the poll
- Way out of bounds as in unfunny, inflammatory, and pointless
- Stupid of the people who are overreacting to this as if it was a legitimate threat
- Stupid of the people who are somehow attaching all conservatives to the stupid poll that stupid people voted in and stupid people overreacted to

Of course, you all realize that there are hundreds of polls on Facebook like "People you want to punch in the face" and people are answering George Bush... Of course, that makes you mad too, right?

There is NOTHING "funny" about this either!

PLib,

Pull the beam out of your eye! "Conservative Hatred Escalates" is what you titled the thread.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: No one denied the story. The point is that you are intentionally escalating discourse with your inflamatory thread title. It sure seems like your agenda has more to do with inciting division than it does informing the community of stories in the news.

You might want to try a less obvious approach. Your "innocent reporting" of the days headlines isn't fooling anyone.

To Jonna,

Just read your thread and I agree that it was an awful thing to have on Facebook.

In reading the rest of your post, while you didn't expressly state so, your post implied (because of the black man/GWB reference) that the person who showed up at the Obama rally was a white person. I just wanted to let you know that the man whose gun you saw in the news was a black man, and while I wholeheartedly believe that is was a huge error in judgment to bring the gun to the rally, he was actually legally allowed to carry it. I doubt that he would have been "immediately tackled, arrested, and would probably still be in prison today (either that or he'd have been immediately shot himself)". The man you saw did not break any laws, other than what I would consider a law of common sense.

Threats made by posters hiding behind the anonymity of online social networking sites, forums, chatrooms and videos posted on "youtube" should absolutely be taken seriously - even if it's kids.

Veiled threats, racial or religious intolerance, inappropriate humor (macabre, insulting, belittling or mean), and uncontrolled internet use are just some of the behaviors the FBI has noted in their publication "The School Shooter: A threat Assessment Perspective."
Web Link

When someone uses a word like "assassinate" in association with the President, I find it hard to believe that anyone could mistake who or what this poster is talking about.

So yes, while some might think it harmless and somthing to "giggle" over, and while many internet posters wouldn't actually kill someone, would you want authorities to miss the one or two that actually do announce their plans? or are hiding behind "e-mob mentality" to incite someone else to violence?

Oh, and BTW, there was more than one protester who showed up at a meeting where President Obama was speaking wearing a gun. The one guy I especially remember carried a sign with Thomas Jefferson's quote "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants." This was the same quote that was on the t-shirt Timothy McVey was wearing when he was arrested. Food for thought . . .

Just to throw a dash of hard facts into the fray, threats against obama are up 400% over george bush. And to all the wingers who might not trust these facts, I got this off of freerepublic.com.

Web Link

Enjoy.

In defense of facebook, they themselves as a company did not post this poll. This poll is part of an application where anyone anywhere can create a poll about anything. Thousands of these polls are generated with this application everyday. The polls are maintained and reviewed by the person who developed the application and this person is in no way connected to facebook. He polices the polls himself based on user feedback and complaints and it took him a while to get notified of the contents of the poll before he was able to pull it down. As a result of this, the poll application has been banned by facebook completely to prevent something like this from happening again. The application developer is working with authorities to track down the person who created the poll.

Just to clarify a few things...

This may be true but there is as good a chance that this is a ploy comming straight out of the Obama camp. There is nothing under the sun that is off limits to the psycopaths in Washington, from the left or the right, they are in the game to win, and I'm not talking about just the fixed politics, that is nothing more than childs play to them. Most of you have no clue and problably could not handle the truth anyway. In the mean time, this serves to distract, confuse, and divide the people so that Washington doesnt have to worry about the people realizing what is really going on. HE SAID SHE SAID YOU SAID I SAID THEY SAID YOUR/WERE ALL RACIST ANTI-SEMITES HOLOCAUST DENIARS WIFEBEATERS TAX EVADERS SINNERS AND CLUELESS ABOUT IT ALL!! I know, lets blame it on the Muslums, that always works for Hollywood, when was the last time you saw a movie where the bad guy was a/an (of course we have to be politically correct here) Israely? The answer is, you didn't, it's always a Muslum and that is why there is no need to be politically correct when we blame them.

What a joke, what were once people have now become sheople, waiting around to be told what to believe and what to where. Above all else, DO NOT THINK FOR YOUR SELF AND DO NOT QUESTION YOUR MASTERS!!!!!

Lets see if these truths are way to much for the editors to cope with. Can't risk the chance of someone crying wolf, I mean anti semetic.

Mark,
Somehow I get the feeling if one day one of these wingnuts finally does fire off a shot or two at obama the reaction from the right will either be: 1) It was all staged by Obama to garner sympathy to pass (fill in the blank...healthcare/climate change/education reform) legislation or 2) It was all Obama's fault for poisoning the political environment with his extreme policies or 3) this was actually perpetrated by one of his own supporters to make it look like Rush/Hannity/Oreilly/Beck inspired it. Either way, he deserved it. I'm sure Michelle Malkin's first article will articulate all of these points. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she's already written the article...

Well if you knew the true history of president assaninations, you would know that as long as any president does not threaten the federal reserve banking system, they won't be taken out by the the powers that be. That is the real reason for kennedy and the others that were murdered. Disregard the "official reports"

FreeRepublic is a wasteland of nut jobs and keyboard commandos. They've been investigated over and over for what gets posted there. And they scrub the site when the fit hits the shan.

I do agree mark that just about everything that goes on in the media is all about distracting you from something else they don't want us paying attention to. I always wonder now when there's a big story, what they don't want us to know. If you're aware of it, you can see it. Most people won't bother to look below the surface.

Mark,
Problem is I do know a little bit about the history of presidential assassinations. For one thing, 3 of our presidents got assassinated before the creation of the federal reserve. Kennedy is the only president assassinated after the creation of the federal reserve in 1913. The "real reason" Kennedy was assassinated was either because a lone nut walked into a high rise, got off 3 lucky shots or he was a stooge put in place as part of a grand conspiracy of disaffected anti-cuban CIA agents who'd been attempting to assassinate Castro for 4 years and turned their guns on kennedy instead when he called off their plans. Or it was the mob. Or both. Or the Cubans (for some suicidal reason) or Kruschev (the right wing wishes) or all of the above. You decide. I don't think the federal reserve had much to do with any of that. But then again, i tend to disregard official reports too.

But please explain to me how Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley were assassinated for messing with a federal reserve system that wasn't established until decades after their deaths...otherwise put down the kool-aid and rejoin reality already in progress...

The last President that faced death threats (or attempts) was the Shrub's paw. The threatening party was hung in Bagdad. Perhaps we should break out the gallows in Texas.
