LOUD Airplanes overhead in North Pleasanton

Original post made by Kimi on Sep 14, 2009

I am used to the noise of the Livermore Airport Flight Path, but large jets are flying LOW and are incredibly loud - my (very solid!!) windows are shaking, etc.

What is the scoop? Anyone know??

Thanks - it's unnerving and family is unsettled.

I just posted about it too. They are flying so low. And there are so many of them.
It's kind of spooky isn't it?

I believe the two F-16's are waiting for the Raider game to start. Monday Night Football...they are doing a fly-over.

My dog is spooked!!!

They kept using their afterburners. That was the source of the noise.

So that was it! We were wondering if it was the Blue Angels, but they aren't scheduled to be here.

"They kept using their afterburners. That was the source of the noise."

Sorry, no afterburners, that was just the sweet sound the American Military, if the afterburners had been used you probably would not have windows still in your house.

"i wonder how much fuel a F 16 burns and who is paying for that?"

You and I, and I for one am proud to do it.

How terribly objectionable! It's patently unfair. Everyone should call the County of Alameda tomorrow and complain!

I'm going to assume Matt is kidding. We jumped up and ran outside to see what the unusual jet noise was about, and then figured it was timed to the start of the Raiders game, although because the Pats game was still winding up, we didn't get to see the fly-over on the TV... darn.

Yes, it was LOUD and a little unsettling because we're not used to it, but also rather neat. Having lived right outside of Edwards Air Force base in the late 60's when things were hopping, it brought back some (fun) memories of my childhood. At least they didn't go super-sonic and rattle all of the glassware and windows in the house!

No afterburners, as correctly stated above. Also, not low. When they were directly over our valley and did two 360s they were clearly at about 5000 feet altitude. People hear loud jets and suddenly "they are low".

It sure looked like there were afterburners to me. I just saw the airshow at Mather yesterday, and the Thunderbirds put on a great show. One of the planes over Pleasanton pretty clearly had bright flames coming from the engine nozzle for a second or two. Then there was a loud sound about ten seconds later. I can't thing what else it could have been. It looked just like the afterburners from the air show.

Oh Matt, get a life! For me, too, it is music to my ears. I ran outside just to watch them majestically fly over, at a fairly high altitude. I get chills, but then again my dad was a military pilot. I believe the weather conditions added to the sound reverberating throughout our town and bouncing off the foothills.

Relax, this isn't a police state, nor are we being invaded.

Everybody was cheering for them, except of course the Obama democrats who despise our military.

55% of Americans despise the military?

re: "Obama democrats who despise the military"

Are you referring to the obama democrats who lied us into a war in iraq that killed thousands of our troops, put our forces in harms way without proper training or gear, left 10s of thousands more maimed, instituted stop-loss programs that forced troops into 3 and 4 tours of duty, and cast them aside when they were no longer useful? Are you referring to the obama democrats who have voted 8 times to cut VA spending and aid to military veterans? Oh wait, that's Joe Wilson and the GOP. Common mistake.

I don't know what an "Obama Democrat" is. I am a registered Democrat. I thought the planes were awesome. I hardly despise the military, only the idiots who, as poster boy wrote, "lied us into a war in Iraq that killed thousands" of that military!

Could it be "the idiots that lied us into war in Iraq that killed thousands" were the French, German, English and U.S. intelligence agencies that collectively reported WMD's were present...

If I'm not mistaken, it was reported the top Iraqi military leaders that were captured also were suprised none were found...
