Agora Bistro - strong out of the gate

Original post made by John on Dec 29, 2007

Took the family to the Agora Bistro last night. I thought it a bit of a risk given that the restaurant is new and the site hasn't had much luck with previous restauranteurs.

Well...if you like Greek/mediterranean cuisine, this place is really very, very good. We tried the slovauka and calamari for starters. Both were well prepared and delicious (calamari was very tender). My wife and I both had the sea bass which was also excellent and the children liked the chicken kebobs. Baklava for dessert was ideal with Turkish coffee.

I am hoping that they won't ratchet down there food quality or service as the place grows in popularity. If they deliver like they did last nite, this will be one of our favorite restaurants.

I agree. We tried the Agora Bistro last night and found the food and service to be outstanding. Also, the prices seem to be in line with other downtown restaurants. However, I would give it about six months before rating it Jeb. That seems to be about how long it takes for quality and service to decline around here. Hopefully, this one will maintain both.

Agora Bistro is a great new place to have lunch or dinner. If you enjoy Greek/Mediterranian cuisine this is the new place to go. The food is fresh and very tasty. The staff are friendly and the service is excellent. The restaurant is very bright and cheerful. The warm hummus appetizer is delicious. As are the gyros and eggplant dishes.
Let's help this new business to be successful in downtown Pleasanton.
If the service and food stays like it is they should be here for a long time. I give it 5 forks!

I recommend the kofte, an excellent dish! Somebody wrote a food review on his dinner there: Web Link
I thought the coolest thing about the interior was the addition of tea light candles inserted in various places along the brick walls.

KALIMERA! Food is so so...nothing to crow about. I think that the plain people of Pleasanton are meat and potato eaters...biscuits and white pork gravy...hots dogs and BBQ baby chicks...beer...sad.

Cholo - If you don't like it, go back to Mexico, or Frisco, or wherever you're from...

This place is fantastic, I recently moved here from the East Coast and am a stalwart fan of greek food. This is one of the best greek restaurants I've been to and I'm glad it is just a few minutes from my home. I think the comment about "plain" people of Pleasanton is sort of funny...I've lived in Manhattan, Wash DC, Atlanta and Miami and most of my Pleasanton neighbors seem as worldly...Where is "the Cholo" from I wonder? It seems a bit absurd to use a restaurant review to insult a community.
