Facts about Obama you may not know:

Original post made by What? on Aug 1, 2009

Here are some interesting facts about Obama prior to his being elected as President Of The United States.

Following high school, he moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to attend Occidental College.[23] After two years he transferred in 1981 to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations[24] and graduated with a B.A. in 1983. He worked for a year at the Business International Corporation[25][26] and then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.[27][28]

After four years in New York City, Obama moved to Chicago, where he was hired as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side. He worked there as a community organizer from June 1985 to May 1988.[27][29] During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from one to thirteen and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000. He helped set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.[30] Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute.[31] In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time in Europe for three weeks and then for five weeks in Kenya, where he met many of his paternal relatives for the first time.[32] He returned in August 2006 in a visit to his father's birthplace, a village near Kisumu in rural western Kenya.[33]

Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year,[34] and president of the journal in his second year.[35] During his summers, he returned to Chicago, where he worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley & Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.[36] After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude[37][38] from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago.[34] Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review gained national media attention[35] and led to a publishing contract and advance for a book about race relations,[39] though it evolved into a personal memoir. The manuscript was published in mid-1995 as Dreams from My Father.[39]

From April to October 1992, Obama directed Illinois's Project Vote, a voter registration drive with a staff of ten and 700 volunteers; it achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African Americans in the state, and led to Crain's Chicago Business naming Obama to its 1993 list of "40 under Forty" powers to be.[40][41]

For twelve years, Obama served as a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School; as a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996, and as a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004.[42] In 1993 he joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a twelve-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development, where he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996, then of counsel from 1996 to 2004, with his law license becoming inactive in 2002

SO much for the "he never had a job in his life" theory!

And so much for the paranoia in regard to his "college transcripts"...

"After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude[37][38] from Harvard in 1991"

Magna Cum Laude is not earned by a flunkee!

He also served on the board of directors of the Lugenia Burns Hope Center.

The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) is a non-profit organization, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, which is committed to sustainable development and livable urban communities. CNT, as an "innovations center for urban sustainability", researches, invents, and tests urban strategies that use resources more efficiently and equitably. Over the years, CNT's work, especially in the areas of climate, energy, natural resources, transportation and community development, has paid off by fueling a generation of community development and learning institutions, earning CNT a reputation as an economic innovator and leader in the field of creative sustainable development.
Founded in 1978, it has recently grown to include an office in San Francisco, California. CNT has been responsible for developing a variety of projects. It launched two non-profits to advance its mission; CNT Energy, an organization that develops and implements initiatives to help consumers and communities control energy costs and reduce energy use; and I-GOTM, a membership-based car sharing organization that provides hourly rental of a fleet of cars located across Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. It also created Wireless Community Networks, a wireless internet access project which uses a mesh network. In addition, their Urban Practice Consulting offers a unique menu of tools and strategies which can be applied individually or collectively to urban development and redevelopment issues.

"Trinity sought to recontextualize Christianity through black liberation theology so as to win back Blacks who were being taught by radical black Islamic leaders that it was impossible to be both Black and Christian."

Trinity United Church of Christ is a predominantly black church with more than 8,500 members, located on the southeast side of Chicago. It is the largest church affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a predominantly white Christian denomination with roots in Congregationalism, which branched from American Puritanism.
In early 2008, as part of their presidential election coverage, news media outlets and political commentators brought Trinity to national attention when controversial excerpts of sermons by the church's 36-year pastor Jeremiah Wright were broadcast to highlight Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's relationship with Wright and the church. Obama responded with a speech, A More Perfect Union, which reduced criticism of the relationship.
The church's early history coincided with the American civil rights movement, subsequent death of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the turmoil that entered the movement after his death. During that tumultuous period, a great influx of radical Black Muslim groups had begun to headquarter in Chicago, and Trinity sought to recontextualize Christianity through black liberation theology so as to win back Blacks who were being taught by radical black Islamic leaders that it was impossible to be both Black and Christian. Trinity is best known today for its social programs on behalf of the disadvantaged, both nationally and internationally, although in its earliest days such outreach did not even figure in its mission.

SO much for the Obama the Islamic Muslim therory!

Please read about Black liberation theology!
Web Link

This theology maintains that African Americans must be liberated from multiple forms of bondage — social, political, economic and religious. This formulation views Christian theology as a theology of liberation -- "a rational study of the being of God in the world in light of the existential situation of an oppressed community, relating the forces of liberation to the essence of the gospel, which is Jesus Christ," writes James Hal Cone. Black consciousness and the black experience of oppression orient black liberation theology -- i.e., one of victimization from oppression. This liberation involves empowerment and seeks the right of self-definition, self-affirmation and self-determination.

" This formulation views Christian theology as a theology of liberation "
Black theology deals primarily with the African-American community, to make Christianity real for blacks. It explains Christianity as a matter of liberation here and now, rather than in an afterlife. The goal of black theology is not for special treatment. Instead, All Black theologians are asking for is for freedom and justice. No more, and no less. In asking for this, the Black theologians, turn to scripture as the sanction for their demand. The Psalmist writes for instance, 'If God is going to see righteousness established in the land, he himself must be particularly active as 'the helper of the fatherless' to 'deliver the needy when he crieth; and the poor that hath no helper.
"All Black theologians are asking for is for freedom and justice. No more, and no less."

"A More Perfect Union is the name of a speech delivered by President of the United States Barack Obama (then Senator for Illinois) on March 18, 2008 in the course of the contest for the 2008 Democratic Party presidential nomination. Speaking before an audience at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Obama was responding to a spike in the attention paid to controversial remarks made by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor and, until shortly before the speech, a participant in his campaign. Obama directed to the broader issue of race in the United States. The speech's title was taken from the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
Obama addressed the subjects of racial tensions, white privilege, and race and inequality in the United States, discussing black "anger," white "resentment," and other issues as he sought to explain and contextualize Wright's controversial comments. His speech closed with a plea to move beyond America's "racial stalemate" and address shared social problems.
On March 27, 2008, the Pew Research Center called the speech "arguably the biggest political event of the campaign so far," noting that 85 percent of Americans said they had heard at least a little about the speech and that 54 percent said they heard a lot about it. Eventually, The New Yorker opined that the speech helped elect Obama as the President of the United States.

"racial tensions, white privilege, and race and inequality in the United States, discussing black "anger," white "resentment," and other issues"
These remain serious issues of great concern that Obama is committed to for good reason and he has made no secret of this ever!

Disclose this!

Why did his law license become inactive in 2002?? Bill Clinton's didn't become inactive till he was convicted of perjury.

With all his 'face time' on tv.. and with a woman reporting today that she was selling her 2 tv's so she didn't have to see so much of him on almost every channel... why haven't we seen him sprinting up the steps of a Church.. ANY Church.. with his 2 little girls and a bible under his arm?? Really thought I'd see that by now.

When he dropped out of Rev. Wright's Church, where he'd been married, had his girls baptized, and attended faithfully for 20+ years and didn't know the Rev. was a Black Nationalist, he said he'd have to find a new Church in WaDC. Wonder how/when he plans to do that??

unclehomerr..

If you simply search the Illinois State Bar website you will find that President Obama voluntarily retired. When a lawyer retires, their license to practice law becomes inactive. As for why, I do not wish to speculate, as it could be for any number of reasons. To address the comment about President Clinton fighting to keep his license active I do not think that this has any real relevance to President Obama in that we are talking about two different people both with their own separate goals and personal values etc.. just like any other two human beings. As for Mrs. Obama I do not as of yet know under what circumstances her license was ordered to be placed on inactive status back in 1993. Until I find out I will not speculate as to why or how.

Here is a link to the ARDC Lawyer search. (attorney registration and disciplinary commission) for the state of Illinois.

How about THIS fact, you don't want to know about...

Obama is the MOST ANTI-AMERICAN US President in our history. No other President had an agenda to DELIBERATELY DESTROY the US economy. He HATES this country and it is painfully obvious.

Dave,

Are you angry towards Obama? I s he the reason for your personal misery?

The guy and his wife made over 1.3 million a year for many years and the last 3 years prior to his running for President, they made over 3 million a year. He and his wife have extensively traveled and done social justice work in other Countries and if they hated America that much, they would not be here.

This is no LAME COUPLE, nor does he hate America, he despises what America has done to black people and other minorities over time and instead of being destructive, he TOOK action and continues to take action.

Obama made no secret of his civil rights views and agenda in his campaign and he continues to keep no secrets about this. It's about time we as America, try and deal with the ever present stigmas, racism and oppression.

What you stated paints a really poor picture of YOU and YOUR belief system and I can only assume, YOUR lack of positive action.

What? FYI "DAVE" has been a mental health practitioner for many years. That's what he claims and guess what, he even provided me with a diagnosis for FREE! Is that cool or what?
(no pun intended) Yup, he dispenses free medical advice online. I know that "Dave" graduated from middle school.

He's terrified that People of Color are gonna keep taking 'n taking away "things" from him. Poor poor fraidy cat Davy Jones! tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

I sure hope so Dave...I'm gonna do my best to educate "illegals" so that they continue to thrive in the US.

Anyone knows that Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Even kids cannot use it as a source of research for school projects!

I am not saying that the above is not true... some we know for sure, like the Harvard degree, etc, but please don't rely on Wikipedia!

At what point did his idealoligy turn toward the racist punk he is today? At what point did he start hating his country? At what point he start worshipping Alah? At what point did he start bowing to leaders and not standing up like the leader of the free world. I say IMPEACH the communist!
