Is the “TownSquare Forum” being used for anti-Obama, right-wing propaganda?

Original post made by Ron on Jul 28, 2009

Since the Pleasanton Weekly began the "TownSquare Forum" feature, I've always been under the impression that the forum would be used to discuss and debate local issues. Instead, I've notice a recent trend of forum users posting daily anti-Obama rants and general right-wing propaganda that sounds like it could have come directly from the mouths of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, or Sean Hannity. Such recent post titles as "Obama the Muslim" have little to do with local issues, and more to do with AM Radio/Fox News conservative talking points being regurgitated on this forum. Many of these posts are completely baseless attacks on Obama and Democrats. They are rife with conservative fear mongering, and founded on rumors and innuendo from extremist websites (Karl Rove style). While I don't necessarily feel that the Pleasanton Weekly should censor these types of posts, I don't think these postings are constructive for our community and reflect only a small percentage of citizens who seem to thrive on fear and divisiveness. Any thoughts on this?

Rush Limbaugh's guns keep you free. They keep you free. That is his second amendment right. I didn't vote for the terrorist, Marxist, non-citizen usurper in chief! He got is terrorist training in a radical Mardrasa in Pakistan for crying out loud! Why nothing about this in the media?

The remedy is to simply NOT respond to the postings that are clearly inflammatory.

Problem solved.

What's the matter Cholo, forget to take your meds? Don't overdose on FM radio. Too bad I insulted your messiah.

Anti-Obama sentiment? Did you take the time to vote or do you only complain about election outcomes? Better yet, are you old enough to vote?

Those of us who voted for Barrack Obama get to rejoice for now.

Correct.

We should rejoice in having a President who does not let "Not Knowing the facts" get in the way of offering an opinion.

Kind of like "I'm not familiar with that provision of the bill" which I am promoting.

Hi Ron,

"Propaganda", using the standard definition is, "The spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person."

You stated "propaganda" in your headline as a negative way of describing the information provided by those of a more traditional and conservative political leaning. In reference to Obama - this is not a bad thing.

Obama is an opportunistic, lying, battering-ram that wants social justice for minorities at any cost to the rest of us and is using all the elements of the left-wing to create a new country consistent with a Marxist worldview. Obama will continue to undermine the US Constitution until we don't recognize this country if we don't speak out and end it immediately.

The frightening part in this entire equations, also known as his first 7 months in office, isn't those who speak out, but are people like you that point at those of us who are genuinely concerned at the turn this nation is taking as if we are doing wrong. Even after being offered the truth, you reject it for the lie.

It is an act of bravery to stand up and point out the sickening betrayal and systematic usurping of our revered system of government for personal vendettas, as is the case with Mr. Obama, and anyone that condemns those bravely speaking out, as you have here, needs to take a moment to consider their own personal agenda.

As far as I am concerned, Obama has not upheld the US Constitution since his Oath of Office and should be considered as already having committed treason. He needs to be removed from office before he totally collapses this nation into the Marxist model he is striving for.

It is one thing to be mislead and lied to as Obama has done to his supporters like you. It is taken to an entirely new sickening level of complete lack of morality devoid of any love of country when you actually defend it after being presented with the truth.

Obama is going to transform this nation into a complete system of social entitlement programs in an effort to settle the score with those he percieves have wronged any minority - until you recognize his intentions and admit the road of demise he is taking this country down, you my friend, are the one buying into the scary propaganda techniques used to control a populus.

Julie,

I think you're just the kind of fear mongering right-winger Ron is talking about. Why don't you just say (Comment deemed inappropriate by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)to add a little extra effect to your Glenn Beck inspired rant. Your post essentially makes Ron's point for him.

You say "It is an act of bravery to stand up and point out the sickening betrayal and systematic usurping of our revered system"

Is really an act of bravery to make anonymous inflammatory post on a website forum? I think not.

You also say "He needs to be removed from office before he totally collapses this nation into the Marxist model he is striving for."

Wow. Why don't you just get out the pitchforks and start a militia? You're probably already working on that. I know people like you fear any and all change, but the "Obama is a Communist, Nazi, Muslim terrorist" type of hysterics must end.

Julie,

"wants social justice for minorities at any cost"

"Obama will continue to undermine the US Constitution"

"sickening betrayal and systematic usurping of our revered system of government for personal vendettas"

WTF are you talking about? IF you care to be specific and credable, I will listen.

There is a minority of old-school conservative people in town who long for Pleasanton as it was during the Reagan Era. They wish Pleasanton was the same homogeneous, conservative bubble that it was 20 or 30 years ago. I don't think it is a stretch to say there is a racist undertone to much of the hatred. Simply put: THEY HATE CHANGE.

Julie...Your post was SO ON TARGET! We are out here...and don't get disheartened by those above who try to belittle you and your comments. Obama's direction is absolutely 180 degrees opposite from EVERYTHING that has made this country great and he is absolutely DETERMINED to DESTROY IT using his smooth style, not to mention his Alinsky methods.

Please be strong enough to continue to speak your mind! I was once a laid back quiet conservative and am no longer quiet. If we are to save our country before he destroys it beyond repair, we MUST speak out, spread the word about what the consequences of his ruinous policies are and will continue to do to this country.

As one of many examples, his National Healthcare Plan will absolutely DEVASTATE innovation in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries! The FDA will place a choke-hold on innovation. There will also be much less incentive for students to enter the medical profession as they will essentially become indentured servants of Federal Govt.

There are two main things wrong with National Healthcare. It neither about "health" nor "care". It is all about the federal government having more control over the population ... i.e rendering us with less freedom.

Julie...Thank you for your wonderful post again. I am hoping (but not holding my breath) that posts like yours will begin to make others who are independent or on the left, re-evaluate where our country is headed under Obama and his fellow democrat administration.

James,

Thank you. A sincere thank you. I think the one thing that is true about Conservatives is we have always been counted on to be responsible and respectable. We have held our tongues to hold ourselves up to be consistent with what we believe. The problem for liberals is they think they are in consensus since very few of us speak out and they are the only ones talking (whining). They are wrong. Only 21% of this country considers themselves left of center politically/ideoligically. While almost 40% consider themselves strongly conservative. That's a pretty big divide. The Conservatives can take a lot, but not the attacks of our own country from outside and certainly never from within.

Socialism is no way to live for anyone. Socialism on any level is simply a bad idea, whether one is a capitalist or not. It's a bad idea not only because of what it will do to our personal rights, but because of what it has ALREADY done to our personal rights. We are a culture of individualists, and we should fight and resist any efforts to make any program for the "group" as it will seek to shut out any freedom – these all consuming entities that always require more resources and eventually will not be a choice. We should fight it, and resist it, all of it, because it will only make a bad situation, where we have already relented too much, worse.

James, you are a true patriot and it is so good to know we are out there...the silent majority! :)

Awwwwwww!!! Nothing like James and Julie making a right-wing, fear-mongering love connection. Its nice to see pure hate for Obama can bring to nutjobs together. Maybe you two can go to a David Duke rally for a first date. Will Rush Limbaugh be at the wedding?

I'm guessing white hoods will be required dress code for the James and Julie wedding.
