Pleasanton needs to be more like a strong Central Valley city like Stockton or Modesto. Those towns have more population, better school, more Walmarts, and much stronger time-tested conservative American values that we hold dear. They don’t let hippies stand in the way of progress. They have nice strip malls and new homes for all. If you grow up in the Central Valley you become a straight-shooter like Richard Pombo, not some fancy pants liberal in San Francisco. You learn how to fix a pickup instead of eating tofu. Stockton has won the “All-American City” award about three times, and Pleasanton hasn’t won it once. What does that tell you! In the Central Valley it’s all about guts, glory, and loving Reagan. They hate solar power, bicycles, and “green” buildings just like me. We need Central Valley to toughen up this town like John Wayne would have done!!

Why would Pleasanton residents want to be more like Stockton? If you do your research, you'll see that Stockton was number two in 2008 for leading the state in violent crimes. So you what you want is to have more Walmarts were we can stop off, eat McDonald's, and then go pick up a box of bullets so I can shot beer cans that have been stacked up along the fence. What's wrong with solar power, bicycles, and green buildings? More people need to ride bicycles and get up off their couches and be active. If you want to live in a place that is like Stockton, maybe you should just move there. Simple as that.

I'd give "Buford" a solid C+ on his attempt at conservative mocking irony. Not bad, but could use some more irrelevant tie ins with something like a Sarah Palin/hockey mom, checked pant wearing golf club republican & so forth. Do a rough draft, try to read it to a few friends, get their input & submit another piece next week, you'll get the hang of it.
...Buford, I'd tell you not to quit your day job but we all know you've done that long ago.

Gee, if Buford thinks that Stockton and Modesto are better places to live than Pleasnton, he should feel free to move there! Different environments suit different people, and it seems this isn't for him.Bye-bye!

IS THIS A JOKE? i'm from modesto. there's lots of dirty, tree-hugging liberal hippies who know how to fix trucks here! heck, some of them even drink bud and listen to country music. but they like volvos and coffe shops, too, and are totally stoked on windmills. modesto is horrible, anyway. i think you're kidding. i'm pretty sure of it.

Buford, Are you kidding? The central valley weather sucks big time, I lived there for years. Prejudice is still common. Hippies and homeless are all over the place. White Trash Cranksters are all over the place, meth capital. Education levels are appalling, most only graduate high school. Housing values have plummeted nearly 65% and unemployment 15%
Take a look at city-data.com and look up Stockton, Oakdale, Modesto etc.

I appreciate some good old fashioned hate-Stockton humor, but I have to say...
You're Pleasanton. Come on. When you lump in Dublin, and Livermore, you almost make up a town.
If you want to compare yourself to something, why not Stockton's curious little offshoot, Mountain House? An entire preplanned town, built in the 21st century. For now, you're still nothing more than a bedroom community.

We want to be a little bedroom community. You can go to any of the many street fares and you dont see a buch of shirtless thugs with gang tattos. We have ZERO ganf violane to speak of. There are not thousands of down and out crack or meth addicts all over the place. The streets are clean. Where do I stop? People live in the Valley because they are/were seeking the American dream of Homeownership, or they were born there and they are stuck.
BTW_ Its the central Valley where "everyone could have a home" regardless of income or ability to pay. Then when home prices skyrocketed you all built fancy pools and bough Escladed with22's etc.
Now the lawns are brown, homes are broken, and this is a large reason for the economic down fall! L.A. and the central Valley have/had the highest number of foreclsure in the Country. The American home ATM! You all cost us a lot!
