Can the Cheney family please go away?
State, National, International, posted by Edward, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Jul 14, 2009 at 10:06 am

Liz Cheney on Morning Joe today:

"I think it does a disservice to the Bush administration, frankly. We kept the nation safe for eight years."

Eight years. Except for the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil in 2001. Except for tens of thousands of American casualties in Iraq. Except for multiple attacks on our allies in Spain and England. Except for thousands of attacks on Americans in Afghanistan. Except for anthrax. Except for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who are out of work because of Reaganomics and Republican economic policies. Other than all that -- eight years!

And Dick Cheney is once again proving to be the most cowardly man in American politics -- sending his daughter out to defend his policies and criminal mistakes. What a man he is. Tell me, fellow Dads, would you ever in a million years allow your daughter to go out and defend your work? I would lay down under the wheel of my daughter's vehicle before I would willingly let her do such a thing. Dick Cheney is a disgraceful and cowardly human being -- for this and many other reasons.

Didn't Chelsea come out in defense of her dad when he was caught with his pants down in the Oral office while he was supposed to be working (presumably tracking down those terrorists he let go after the first Trade Center bombings)?

No?

Cheney has always had our country's best interests in mind--why else would he incur the rath of all the bleeding heart pacifists on the left as he kept our country safe?

"You can't handle the truth....."

I can't believe you guys are still talking about Clinton's escapades, as though they were on par with the debacles of the last admistration. And I don't ever remember Chelsea ever defending her dad over that scandal.

Cheney has always had his buddies' pocketbooks in mind, along with his own - he incurred the wrath of the bleeding heart pacifists on the left (along with just regular pacifists, and members of many other groups as well) because of the way he helped mislead the country into war with Iraq, and all the casualties, military and civilian, that resulted from his deception.

You weren't given the truth...

Am I alone in not caring what the daughter of the former VP has to say? Who decided she would be an interesting interview??

I think I would rather hear stories about spelling bees attended...That is, if I am forced to listen to the 2nd bananas tales

Edward, I daresay that most of us would never have even heard about this interview if you didn't post it. In other words, WE DON'T CARE what Liz Cheney, Chelsea Clinton, Jenna Bush, or any First Daughters say or do.

And she did what most children do, stick up for the family when pressed. Nothing cowardly about that. If someone went to your daughter and said "Your dad did a rotten job", she would likely leap to your defense, and you'd look pretty stupid laying under the car tires then, wouldn't you?

If you hate Dick Cheney, fine, go ahead and hate him. But don't point to irrelevant interviews with his kid and try to extrapolate cowardly acts. It's pretty weak reasoning on your part. Sounds like you're just looking for new reasons to hate the guy.

Parent of Two,

You said "And she did what most children do, stick up for the family when pressed"

I see, so most kids go on a variety of nationally televised political shows to defend their lying father because he is a coward? Give me a break. It amazes me how "Parent of Two" defends and rationalizes almost anything Republicans do. It’s sad to see someone so brainwashed by Fox News.

I think "Parent of Two" and "SteveP" are a conservative couple living in their own little redneck, right-wing fantasy land.

Wow, interesting how I get attacked... double-teamed even.

Jen, I was just pointing out that most of us don't care about what First Daughters think or say. As children of politicians, I would think they're used to sticking up for their parents. And I'd be saying the same thing if Chelsea was out defending her parents. It comes with the territory. Nobody should read anything into it, other than family loyalty.

p.s. I don't watch FoxNews. Shame that you're preprogrammed to believe that anyone who isn't an Obamaniac watches FoxNews. Pretty dichotomous world you live in.

Gotta say I agree with Parent of Two- and I am a registered Libertarian, so explain that one away....Cannot blame the Dems or Republicans for my point of view. Or Fox news! LOL

Huh, the difference in the lack of judgment from Clinton and Chaney???

The President kept something hidden from his wife violating personal vows. Morally reprehensible but really none of my business. I can take it into consideration in the voting booth of I want.

Chaney, the Vice=President, kept something hidden from Congress violating the Constitution which is my business and should be everyone's business. It might be the Republicans this time and it could be the Democrats the next. Rule of law means everyone abides by it no matter what. It is the moral fiber of the conutry.
