What You May Not Know About Speaker Pelosi's National Energy Tax
More Mandates, More Regulations, and More Costs Than Ever Before
Washington, Jun 26 - Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India. This, we know.
It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls. This, we also know. Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging.
But what don’t we know? Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax:
Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home? You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase. The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase new home costs by mandating California’s expensive new building codes for the entire nation. Immediately upon enactment, the Democrats’ bill would demand a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency for new construction. A couple of years later, the Democrats’ bill would require an additional 50 percent improvement. These numbers were chosen with no concern for cost to consumers or feasibility in implementation.
Homebuilders Beware. The Democrats’ bill imposes new mandatory regulations and civil penalties for homebuilders. If your state refuses to accept the stringent and costly California building codes, the federal government may assess penalties. And don’t get too comfortable with the new mandatory regulations because the Democrats’ bill allows for “consensus-based” codes to supplant those outlined in the bill. So, as soon as you’ve invested your hard-earned money to comply with the bill’s mandates, the rug could get pulled from underneath you. Translation? You’ll pony up more and more money.
Home Sellers Beware. Having a hard time selling your home? Here’s one more hurdle to jump: all homes sales are conditioned upon an energy audit and a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program for your home that’s outlined in the Democrats’ bill. And if you thought you could improve your property with a fresh coat of paint and some granite counters? Think again! Now your home will be subjected to a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program that will penalize you for older windows, original fixtures, and dated appliances. So the Democrats’ bill would bring down the value of your home!
New Lights No Matter the Cost. As early as 2012, the Democrats’ bill eliminates all existing lighting technology used in many outdoor lighting fleets (parking lots, stadiums, secured facilities like power plants and factories). Just as an example, switching to the mandated technology in the bill will cost one small utility about $30 million in annual revenue. So you now have to comply with the new mandates for new lighting? Hold the phone. It is not clear that a feasible alternative technology is available for every existing lighting application – regardless of cost – which could force some businesses to close.
The consequences of Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax for families and small businesses are real. It will drive up energy costs, send millions of jobs to countries like China and India, and place an especially heavy burden on rural America. There is a better way. House Republicans have proposed the American Energy Act legislation that represents the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The legislation would:
Increase environmentally-safe energy production on remote lands and far off our shores;
Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions, such as nuclear, clean-coal, and renewable energy technologies; and
Encourage increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.
Today’s vote on Speaker Pelosi’s ill-advised national energy tax will have consequences for every American. It is abad deal for America. The American people will remember how their Members of Congress vote.
Some Twitter Postings this morning…
Sessions showing hundreds of pages of GOP ideas that were completely ignored!!
Too bad most Americans have never turned on cspan. They'd be disgusted by the tactics.
Mike Pence (R-IND) says Dems filed 309pg amendment to capandtrade at 3:09 AM. Must be 'transparency' that Obama talks about.
Obama: “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” Web Link

Thanks, I will make sure to phone McNierney today and tell him I support clean energy and to vote FOR the cap and trade bill. Stop the scare tactics--the time to change is now.

Do you realize this bill will result in a doubling (at least) of our electric bills and will eliminate literally over a million jobs in the US...to China? This bill is the LARGEST TAX in US history...over the masquerade of JUNK SCIENCE. It is really about total control of government over our lives.

Yo says "Oh Republicans never do that"
YO: I gotta believe you have more depth to yourself that. Please tell me you do. You present no insight. You make it a Republican vs Dem issue? Why not just look at the bill (last I checked we were commenting on Cap n trade not TARP...but for the record I did not support that.)
I am against Gov re-distribution of wealth. Period.
Look at the OUTCOME of this bill vs trying to link "catchy" definitions to political parties.
It will affect you and your family. It will affect the poorest of people(look at the WV/PA coal industry) as well as the people you want to "label" losers.
It a tax. Period. And by definition of a tax, it raises money to finance government programs and services. It will redistrubite wealth under the guies of "saving the enviornment" It does NOTHING for the environment, as its proponents claim. I repeat: It is a TAX, period.
Like most TAXES, it confiscates wealth and seeks to redistribute it. Under this scheme, companies who overproduce (emissions) will pay for the privilege in the form of "Carbon Credits", on an exchange based in Chicago (where else?). These credits will be awarded by the government, but "traded" on this exchange like a commodity. Under producers can "sell" their "credits" to the over producers, thus effecting a wealth transfer from the "haves" to the "have nots", meanwhile, the "emissions" are not reduced!
BTW, India and China are NOT SUBJECT to this plan! Another facet - the over producers will be penalized, in the form of a tax, including having to buy the "credits" - more transference of wealth!
This entire bill of goods does NOTHING to reduce emissions, and will wind up costing BILLIONS of DOLLARS, and exploding utility costs and by admsiion of this white house, loose jobs! Did you know that have a built in "insurance policy" for those who the WH knows will loose thier jobs???
Everyone will pay more becaue we are a country that depends on energy and a country that depends on the productivity of people.
Follow the MONEY - Obama sat on the board of the Joyce Foundation when the funding to create the "Chicago Climate Exchange" was approved, along with funding for "Chicage Schools Initiative" - John Ayers project (sound familiar - William's brother). Chicago Climate Exchange board members include Maurice Strong (involved in the "Oil for Food" UN scandal) Mayor Richard Daley, the largest shareholder is Goldman Sachs - can you remember what happened to Goldman Sachs?
This link explains more:

and Al Gore hyping "Carbon Credits" - available from whom? Why Al Gore's company - here is the quote:
Gore buys his carbon off-sets from himself--the Generation Investment Management LLP, "an independent, private, owner-managed partnership established in 2004 with offices in London and Washington, D.C." of which he is both chairman and founding partner.
So, YO, I wish it was simple as "Republicans never do that". But like most issues, step back and study the details. Don't be so simple minded as to hide behind the political party of your choice. You only position yourself to see no evil, hear no evil but quick to label!

"Junk Science"
That's exactly it. This is just another thing government found to tax, regardless of whether the science is sound or not. Let's ignore evidence that Mars is going through a period of global warming too, believed to be due to the historic low sunspot activity. Let's cherry pick our evidence so that we can influence a populace that doesn't understand science into paying more taxes.

But my above comments aren't to suggest that "business as usual" suffices. Didn't Mother teach us to keep our homes clean? Global warming is not a reason to start cleaning up. Only that we shouldn't allow government to burden us with new tax based upon fuzzy-thinking.

Global warming is not a reason to start cleaning up. We should be keeping clean already.

Thank you for posting this link about the EPA suppressing info that refutes global warming. I believe this report should be a separate topic on this PW forum. Otherwise this info will likely not be seen.
Also, I believe from most of your postings that you lean liberal, if I am not mistaken. However, I want to commend you for posting this article which supports many conservatives who profess that hard science does not support global warming theories.
Al Gore and his movie, along with the MSM and pseudoscientists and the democrat party are promoting the biggest scam on global citizens. The Cap & Trade Bill must be rejected in the Senate.
