I wonder when the first accident is going to happen at Vineyard and Pietronave from motorists who fly down the hill and forget there's a light there. The City may have to improve signage there.

What percent of the cost was from developer impact fees: 51%, 75% or 90%. Accuracy makes a big difference. Also, remember that all developer fees are directly passed on to new home buyers of developments exposed to these fees.
$416,000 -- almost as much as the restrooms downtown! We still spend money like we're printing it here in town!!
If the timing of these signals is controlled by the same morons who control the timing on First Street, watch out. I have spoken and written to the person who sets the timing of the First Street lights and have never been able to get the timing modified. What he sets is this: First St green lights on for 120 seconds, followed by Neal Street green lights on for 15 seconds. So anyone wanting to move across or onto First from Neal waits TWO MINUTES for a 15 second opportunity to do it. People waiting to use the crosswalk wait for TWO MINUTES to have a 15 second opportunity to cross. Begin to see why there have been three car vs pedestrian accidents in that crosswalk in the past year? The lights are set up this way **without regard** to actual traffic. Many, many times as I wait to walk across at Neal there is not one single car on First but the light remains green for the non-existant cars for TWO MINUTES. Just plain stupid.
The light timing issue is from the Jeff Knowles traffic engineering era. Jeff used to be our Traffic Engineer. The idea was to reduce cut-through traffic by frustrating the cut-through folks. It worked to frustrate us residents the most!
for VC -- actually the stated purpose of the long green lights is to HELP not frustrate cut-throughs. The traffic engineer wants to reduce the amount of time that the cut-throughs spend waiting to get through town. How nice, make things easier for them and make it virtually impossible for locals to safely cross the streets. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Thanks to the city for the long overdue signals. Purely from a safety standpoint, this investment will reduce accidents and save lives. To compare it to the new public toilets in town is very shallow thinking.
Now how about the mess at I680 exit northbound at Sunol Blvd? Talk about visibility problems and high risk, thats it. Try making a left turn there most any day at 3-7pm

So that the congestion will only last 1 hour versus 3 hours. If they're not going to stop and spend their tax money here, get them out of here ASAP. We don't need them so anything we can do to expedite their journey helps us.
long time resident, my point was the cost of projects in our fair city, not whether or not we should have traffic lights or restrooms or comparing one to the other.

obviously you haven't noticed the flashing signal they have at the top of the hill going eastbound on vineyard to let people know the light is red?
It is just the same as on Stanley @Isabel, when the light is red it flashes a yellow.

400K would keep a few teachers in employment. It is time pleasanton woke upto to the people running this town. It is an embarressment how many lights we have to sit at just to get out to the freeway.
I can make it to freemont under the speed limit once on the freeway quicker than getting out of pleasanton from waiting at the lights.
This is progress. When I moved to Pleasanton there was one traffic signal, and now, well, we've become civilized. I burn more gas and cause more pollution and spend more time "driving" through town than I do on the freeway going to where I need to go. I swear there seems to be a signal on every corner, oh wait that was just a dream. No, I was awake, too bad our traffic engineers aren't.
You know, when you can get on 580 at Santa Rita and go around to 680 get off at Bernal and get to Main Street ALL faster than heading down Santa Rita to get downtown, something is wrong.
Some traffic engineer we have. Pretty much Owens and Stoneridge and Pleasanton North needs to be handled to keep the traffic flowing. Leave the rest of the lights alone.
This wizard decided to implement a system of alternating signal systems. S/he has programmed the lights, for example, to allow the turn lanes to go first parts of the day and to go last part of the day. What idiotic system is that?
People who live here do not need the variations. Normal traffic systems have one, and it is consistent. Not here. No, I can't tell you how many times people have been waiting at a light in the left hand turn lane when the light goes green for the people traveling straight. Do you know how many times just at Santa Rita and WLP I have seen people go into oncoming traffic because they assumed, rightly, that the light was for them? How stupid to alternate it. It is normal to have the turn lanes go first, then let the people traveling straight go next.
This is going to take a life at some point when a poor pedestrian gets the signal to walk and someone assumes they can turn left. Get your stupid "variables" under control and maintain some consistency.
The planning for many lights is an emmbarrassment to Pleasanton. As I sit at many lights with NO cross-trafic. it takes me about 15 minutes to get from Valley Trails to 680. It only takes me 20 minutes more to get to Southwest Oakland. Our complaints are genuine, it's a shame nothing changes without money backing it.

15 minutes to 680? I take my child to daycare near Valley View school and back (I work from home in Highland Oaks) in 15 minutes, sometimes less. I do not speed (OK, maybe 5 mph over the limit at times), run lights or stops. How on earth is it taking you 15 minutes to get from Valley Trails to 680? I pass Valley Trails twice on my journey and do it in less time. Are you stopping at Starbucks and counting that?
(Try taking W. Las Positas to Foothill Rd, it will bypass the Stoneridge signals.)
Wow! I've gone by several times since they instituted the light at Bernal and 680, and every time I've seen someone ignore the red light. Pleasanton PD, do you exist?
Try getting off from 680 Northbound at Stoneridge and making a left at the light. During the day you can expect a good 5 minute wait, but at night you will never get a green light.
No Speed Racer, not at all. I would not give a dime to that commercial(Word removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)chain. I support Peets, thank you very much.
Here are the lights from Valley Trails to 680 that are red 98% off the time @ 6:45am M-F:
The left onto Hopyard from Valley Trails, the 2 or 3 lights (out of what 5?)I get stopped at on Hopyard, then the left turn off off Hopyard to Stoneridge is NEVER green. Lastly, the 2 lights between Hopyard and 680 are always red. So maybe it's between 10 and 15 minutes, BUT WE ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT 2 MILES!!!
Poorly timed lights has been an ongoing issue for 20 years. I used to work in Dublin, and used to take Hopyard every weekday to get there. To hit all the lights green back in the late 1980's you had to go about 55mph. (of course I never did that)
