PUSD Superintendent's Evaluation

Original post made by Dark Corners of Town, Country Fair, on Jun 23, 2009

...Or the lack of one? Originally scheduled for June 2, the PUSD Board (see May 29 mtg minutes) moved it to June 22. Expected to see it last night.... it is now scheduled for October 6. But there is no mention of this in any of the Board meeting minutes.
Who made the decision? And when? Why wait so long? What is the rubric for measuring a Superintendent's performance?

Thanks for posting the contract. It says the evaluation must be completed by June 1. Says nothing about extensions (to October?). Who's accountable for this? The PUSD Board?

Yes, the Board must meet the contract. If there is a change, it should be in writing. It is not on line that I can see. It could be a precursor to a retirement announcement, but you'd have to either ask for the change to the contract at the district office or contact board members directly.

There is something right at the end of the minutes for the May 26 meeting. Since I know it's a pain to dig through all the PDFs that are available on the PUSD website, I'll retype the paragraph here:

"Chris [Grant] asked the other trustees if they want to, due to the election, consider changing the June 2 meeting. They could incorporate the superintendent's evaluation. Consensus was to cancel the June 2, 2009 meeting and to add the superintendent's evaluation to the closed session on June 22."

The best way to find out what criteria are used when evaluating the superintendent is probably to contact board members who have been through the process before -- Grant, Ott, or Kernan. Their contact information is at this link: Web Link

Why postpone it?

Here's what's gonna happen...

Chris Grant is going to ask everyone to write on the paper in front of them and then hold it up to their chest hiding what they have written.

At the count of three, the trustees will each flip over their papers revealing this...

10-10-10-10-10.

In unison they will proclaim:

"Great Job, Dr. Casey! We love you!!" Jim Ott will stare a little longer smiling at Dr. Casey giving the community yet another reason to be creeped out by his intrigue with Dr. Casey.

Evaluation complete.

Sandy - thanks for confirming the first Board-approved rescheduling of the evaluation to June 22. When was it changed to October 6 (see 2009 meeting schedule)?

I don't know when it was changed to October 6, but I do know that it has shown up on next Monday's agenda.

Originally there was no meeting scheduled after June 22, but now there is one on June 29.

The superintendent's evaluation is on the "closed" portion of the board's agenda.

The public meeting agenda will address the concerns about administrative positions being re-added, retirements being extended, etc.

As always, the agenda and board packet are available on the board website at this link: Web Link

Well here's the public evaluation portion of the superintendent:

You suck. Spare us from your continued leadership and retire. We need new blood, new leadership and frankly a new reputation.
