SUICIDE AT SHADOW CLIFFS !!! Crimes & Incidents, posted by Tom, a resident of the Vintage Hills Elementary School neighborhood, on Jun 18, 2009 at 9:42 am
On Monday June 15th I drove in to Shadow Cliffs Lake only to find police and a corenor. I only got a little bit of info from other people at the lake they said that a man shot himself and was laying there for awhile before being discovered. I would like to know why the pleasanton weekly or anyone else has not reported on this or is our town trying to act like somethings dont happen here. Did anyone else hear or see anything on this???

I've heard nothing on this nor is there anything out on the web.
However, keep in mind this park is actually not Pleasanton's. It belongs to the East Bay Regional Parks District -- having been donated by Kaiser Industries some years ago.
Why would you put the responsibility of reporting on something of this nature on Pleasanton when the park falls outside of their law enforcement jurisdiction?

Well it may not belong to pleasanton, but that also would apply to the railroad tracks I belive and they report when someone jumps in front of or gets hit by a train. Anyway I would just like to know what took place at shadow cliffs. I dont care who reports on it but when things like this happen in and around our town I belive we should be informed.

Tom, your desire to know might be trumped by the families' right to privacy. And there may be an investigation around the circumstances and whether or not it could be foul play.

First of all private property doesn't belong to Pleasanton. Yes it does fall in Pleasanton’s jurisdiction. This isn't an episode of 'Dukes of Hazard' where someone just needs to make it over the county line to be safe from the law. When in trouble you can't run to Shadow Cliffs and be immune from the P Town PD. Secondly PW doesn't care about Henry Germain's family or other worse and more embarrassing crimes. Truth be told the PW isn't a hard news paper. They pick and choose stories, not cover the entire news for the town. It's more like the Lifestyles section of the local paper than the NY Post or something.

You guys are really RUFF on the Weekly, aren't you? What if they haven't heard about it yet? This is the first time that most of us have heard about this subject. I am going to assume that the police have more important things to do when they find a shooting victim, than to call the Pleasanton Weekly and inform them of their findings. You guys are just mean.
And I was told I had anger problems...you guys make me look good!

2ME4U - I'm sorry..."...doesn't care about Henry Germain's family or other worse or embarassing stories..." Are you kidding us? This was about justice and the system finally working. Sometimes it is the assaulted one who must prevail over the stinkin' criminal. You have me worried, 2ME4U. Protecting the criminals! SHEESH!

So as far as the jurisdiction portion of these posts...
when the OP said, "...I drove in to Shadow Cliffs Lake only to find police and a corenor."
I would just like to know which company the police and coroner were from and that would decide the argument of who.
As far as the PW, they have a "crimes and incidents" portion of the paper and TS forum, so I'd expect to see some details on such an incident.
I would hold PW slightly above the quality of investigative journalism of Amador/Foothill's papers...it's usually a whose who of the cool people and stories of fun in the sun. Not to mention the self interest of themselves in family photos around the world. Just because you get brung to the dance doesn't mean people like you.

So much happening all over the world and within our own community, you can't really expect one little local paper to cover everything....and know about everything....all the time. Call them and ASK them to do a story on something if you feel it is being overlooked instead of hitting them over the head to do so.

Mary- I'm not defending that scumbag Henry Germain. I wish they would have burned him at the stake and I would have thrown the match. My point was that the PW or journalist in general should not worry about peoples feelings on stories unless they are children. I was saying that the reason it hasn't been coverered was not due to "...desire to know might be trumped by the families' right to privacy". Sorry I was unclear.
