Wow! take a look at the mug of the author of the article Debra J. Saunders! She should demand an apology from her parents for them breeding and I think I know why she is jealous of Sarah Palin

In a hastily called press conference, Sarah Palin - the Governor of Alaska and a key to Republican success in the 2008 Presidential election -- was today named as the United State's first "Humor Czar"; a newly created position in The Department Of Homeland Security. Palin, who is as well known for her intellect as her sense of humor, will be responsible for overseeing and approving all of America's "jokes, gags, satire, mirth, merriment, irony, one liners, bits, sketches and other humor related materials."

At the news conference, Palin was flanked by comedians Larry The Cable Guy and Dennis Miller. Both expressed support for Palin and agreed comedy had gone 'too far' in a direction they called "un-funny, un-American and un-good." When asked by reporter Tommy Christopher about the ramifications of mass censorship, Mr. The Cable Guy replied, "Censorship? Git 'er done!". Most reporters chuckled, especially when Governor Palin glared at them with a wide, twisted grin on her face.

I wish Debra J. Saunders would go away...the election is over. Oh, wait, Obama is still in campaign mode so maybe it isn't and we just think it is. Obama doesn't have to worry about taking his daughters to a Yankee game becuase Letterman just "adores" the First Family.
Palin isnt playing the victim, she is a victim of constant liberal attacks, her family is OFF LIMITS. Could you imagine the outrage if the right made fun of Obamas daughters, I can.

Most of the naysayer so Palin are women and I believe they are for the most part jealous of her because she is what they want to be. Beautiful, successful, desired, good figure, powerful, and this is why you do not hear from NARAL as she does not fit the stereotype of dumpy and ugly woman.

I think you need to take a break from worshipping the Palin poster on your wall, and find a new conservative airhead to follow. Miss California maybe? A blonde on Fox News?

Geeesh! You do know that Debra J Saunders is a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN columnist, right?

Yes, Letterman's jokes were obnoxious and uncalled for. Most of them are and probably will be in the future. However, Gov Palin's made her point. Time to move on and get back to governing her state. Did you know that Alaska has the highest per capita incidence of alcoholism, rape, and suicide in the United States? Perhaps she should be doing something about that.

As far as a politician's family being off-limit and out of the public spotlight - I agree. Palin's school age children should have been in school (like the Obama children, then and now) and not paraded on stage during her campaign tour, or used as props during her post-election speaking tours.

I have been sick of Sarah Palin for a long time now. Jealous? I'll take my IQ over her looks any day (& I disagree that she's "beautiful").

Rae, I think you hit it right on. Politician's children should be kept out of the spotlight.

Letterman didn't think he was joking about a child, but about an *adult* young woman who has been paraded all over the press. I got sick of Bristol too! Now they are going to cry foul? If you air all your laundry out for everyone to see then free speech dictates that it can be made fun of! I think the inappropriateness of Letterman's "joke" pales in comparison to half of what comes out of Rush's mouth!

How many of you have a 14-year old daughter? OK, now how would you feel if a 64-year old man made a comment about her sleeping with the New York Yankees? On national TV?

If you don't have a daughter, you should really back off. Even Letterman realized that his researchers messed this one up (told him the wrong daughter went to the game), and fell on his sword.

Julie, I think if you asked a male and he was actually honest he would tell you that Sarah Palin is one good looking woman and if objective nobody would say she is not intelligent.

Selective memory. Obama was equally guilty of this (and he was running for the higher office). In fact, while my kids were in school, his kids were being paraded around Europe.

Let's not kid ourselves in that Letterman knew exactly who he was talking about and it was not mistake he was just surprised that many of his sponsors are pulling their advertising spots. Regardless of if it was intended for the 14 year old or the 18 year old or anyone else for that matter it was disgusting and uncalled for and he is one weird dude to say the least. I have 3 daughters and if any old man said something like that about one of them he be getting his front teeth rearranged right now. I would like to see brave old Dave man up with Todd Palin. I guess I used the wrong word as he is not a man but a pervert old man.

I do have teenage daughters and I think a HUGE mountain was made out of a mole hill regarding Letterman's **jokes**. Perhaps Mrs. Palin is trying to extend her 15 minutes of fame. I watched one of Letterman's responses to all the fuss:

Web Link

He says, "I can't really defend these - they're just jokes". Yeah, no kidding! Of course they were in poor taste, he admits that. At least when you watch Letterman you know that it's a comedy show. You (should) know that his goal is simply to get laughs. The dangerous one is Limbaugh who presents his statements, not as comedy, but as facts.

Dater, I guess you missed where I said, "of course they (the jokes) were in poor taste". To further help you analyze my post since you refer to it, saying that I think too much was made of Letterman's joke does not equal "see nothing wrong with Letterman's comments". I don't pass on beliefs to my daughters that are based on a late night comic's attempts at humor!

I wouldn't mind if my daughters heard the joke - it would open up a healthy dialog. I would explain that Palin is the target of such jokes because she was such a staunch supporter of "abstinence only" sex education and yet has a daughter who got pregnant as a teen. I would explain that the comedy world generally has a field day with irony and hypocrisy particularly when it is found in the life of a politician. I would also explain that the Palins did not choose to keep the pregnancy a private matter as evidenced by the multitude of magazine covers and interviews regarding the pregnancy and baby and that they certainly helped to open the door to being ridiculed. Finally, I would also open discussion regarding what my daughters think about comics, writers, etc. capitalizing on a family's challenges and turning it all into jokes.

By the way, Dater, since Bristol got pregnant so young are you implying that the Palins did a poor job of bringing her up morally? I mean, obviously Bristol was "quite popular" with at least one boy.

Julie,

you seem like a pretty good mom and good all around person. I am trying to point out that people making comments like he made should not be tolerated and they were disgusting and a complete slap in the face to girls, women, and gentlemen as a whole. I was reading up above comments about him losing sponsors and that being the only reason he is trying to make amends but come on no one could possibly think those comments were funny. They could only be construed as mean spirited and demeaning as Letterman has a history of going after Sarah Palin and I believe it is terrible. If he does not want to vote for her then don't but it does not help anything to make up stuff and make fun of someone just because you do not like them. I was really proud of the Palin's for standing up for their daughter they way that they did and yes she made a mistake but did not make it worse in my view by taking the life of an unborn child.

Judge, I imagine the conversation would be ongoing. I was merely listing the potential dialogs that came into my mind. You think Rush is a riot?

"Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?"
— while holding up a photograph of 13-year-old Chelsea Clinton on his 1993 television show, Rush Limbaugh

Dater, I agree with part of what you said, specifically the fact that Letterman (as well as many comics) can be mean spirited and that it was admirable that the Palins supported their daughter (despite my disagreeing with what they had to say).

But seriously, this is what comedians do. Politicians make up their best material. I take more offense at Limbaugh's comment about Chelsea Clinton. No, there's no sexual reference, but it hits at the heart of what 13 year old girls obsess about - their looks. Talk about mean spirited! And I guess he has no age limits for his targets. At least Letterman thought he was joking about an adult. And, at least every intelligent person knows that Letterman is comedy. There are people who take Rush seriously.

If they are really a good comedian they do not need to stoop that low. I saw both Jay Leno and Dana Carvey seperately and they had everyone in stitches and did not use one dirty word nor any nasty put downs so it can be done. Now you have me wondering if Lettermans ratings are in the tank.

Dater, I'm sorry, I never meant to imply anything about you and Rush. I had found the quote and thought it ironic in light of the Letterman controversy. I wasn't directing my final paragraph at you, only the one before it. Thanks for keeping it real :)

Judge, although comments like those from Pablo make me want to retort rather than apologize, I do apologize if my quote was inaccurate. I found it at what I considered to be a reliable source. There is still controversy over whether or not the incident occurred, though I must admit that if it did...wouldn't it be all over YouTube :)?

Pablo, you don't help your "side" with comments like, "another liberal lie exposed". There are plenty of lies and poor behaviour on ALL sides of EVERY issue. A comment like yours simply invites more nastiness. You must know that there are plenty of other, validated, quotes from Rush that are just as disturbing as the inaccurate one I posted.

This is just another distorted liberal attack on Sarah Palin. At least she stands for something, for family values, conservative principles, etc...that's more than I can say for her critics who allow the left-centered media think for them...Sarah Palin is not a victim and doesn't claim to be...the SF Chronicle writer shows clearly in what she writes about why they are losing readers and going under financially. The writer is critical of Palin and not Letterman for his comments, does she think her reader's have no brain...The victims are those who are pulled in by what's popular, what feels good, what sounds progressive (which is in reality regressive) instead of what's right and consistent with our american values.

Palin schmalin. Where's the public outcry against racist statements made by Sotomayor? Does she get a pass because the is Latina, female, and liberal? If a white conservative male had said what she said he would have been crucified on the front lawn of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. and all the liberals would have been there to get a drop of the blood. A liberal says this and it is "taken out of content" or excused as a "mis-speaking". Give me a break. Palin deserves an apology for the inconsiderate and derisivie comments made by Dave Letterman and the mocking she has received from the liberal community for standing up for her beliefs.

Picking on Paln is fair game. Once again the liberals feel it is alright to trash the conservatives. Why don't the liberals work on some ideas, instead of voting for a man who is turning this country into a SOCIALIST country. Wake up AMERICA you are losing your freedoms everyday.

It's a real mystery to me as to why Sarah Palin is threatening to so many. I admire her and I'm glad she's an attractive woman, hunting wolves, caribou, moose, etc. (only vegans should be appalled), defending her family, defending her children, and exposing her personal views. She is refreshing in this day of politicians who shape their answers for their audience or the latest polls. She was naive to media ambushes that would inevitably come her way, but I think she's learned her lesson. She is smarter than Joe Biden, and only lacks his years of experience in Washington (which might be a good thing). I thought her speech at the Rep Convention was hilarious; and I enjoy the frustration and contempt that she receives from overweight and "higher IQ" liberal urban dwellers.

Sarah Palin chose to be a candidate for V.P. knowing that it would put her pregnant, unwed daughter, whom she chose not to educate about safe sex, in a world-wide spotlight. Even after her failure to practice safe sex when she was an unmarried teenager, put her in the same position, she chose to teach her daughter abstinence exclusively. Fortunately, Bristol ended up with a darling child instead of a life threatening disease. Absinence is the best route, no doubt. But kids have minds of their own and it is a parents responsibility to teach them how to be safe if they chose a different path than the one we would chose for them. If parents would do this, sex education, which so many are against, wouldn't be needed in the schools. How she can be a poster child for the Christian Coalition and family values is beyond me.

The V.P. position was one that she immediately proved herself massively under-qualified to hold. But she put her ambition ahead of her family knowing what Bristol would suffer because of her selfishness. If it wasn't for her, sure Alaska would know, but she wouldn't have the world-wide notoriety she has and David Letterman wouldn't have even have heard about it. As wrong as the media is in their pursuits, we know what we are getting into if we run for public office in this country. That is why so many who we would want to elect are not willing to put their families through it. By 2012 it wouldn't have been nearly as big of an issue. Sarah could have spent the time actually preparing for the position and she might have been a viable candidate. Personally, I don't think she has the intelligence, nor the class for the position, but she would have been a better candidate than she was in 2008.

The decision of the GOP to run Sarah Palin was a insult to all the qualified women in America. Really to all women in America. All you executives out there, ask yourselves if an applicant for an executive position in you company winked at you throughout the interview and gave similarly uninformed answers to the questions you asked, would they even get a second interview? Would you hire them to a vital position in your company because they were pretty? I seriously doubt it. Yet some people believe she should have been a heartbeat away from the presidency. Mind boggling.

I just laugh at how all of you try to pick her apart! She is so under your skin!!

Have you considered YOU are the issue? What is YOUR deal?

Sarah Palin appeals to so many of us because she is real. She is like any of the rest of us, even here in P-town, that want to make a difference in our community and develop a new passion for politics or serving in government. She has her own views. There is nothing wrong with that!

The reason people don't like her, or so it seems, is because the liberal media from the snotty East Coast is shocked that anyone outside of their societal preferences that dares to have differing opinions than themselves, is popular with the average American. The reason why her poll ratings have dropped some since she entered the election in the fall is simple; the liberal media went after her, and after her, and after her. She doesn't need to know all the answers anyway...because Obama certainly doesn't.

Sarah Palin is outwardly GORGEOUS and she IS INTELLIGENT to boot. She hunts, as is typical of her local culture, she is a working mom, a dedicated wife and a conservative. Ooooh! All reasons to HATE her? Right...

Go ahead and keep picking on her thinking you have so much support from a megaphoned media. You don't. She is representative of everything that is great in this country. She isn't anyone priviledged or threatening. She is succeeding at everything the Feminists told women they could do...the difference is Sarah didn't spite her family to do it or give her marriage. She has managed to do it all. And yeah, her kid got pregnant. That doesn't mean she should punt the message of abstinence. I have zero judgement of her in that situation - things happen - her kid went rogue. So my Pastor's kid did something messed up in the 90's, should I blow off him also? What ridiculous logic. Abstenacne isn't what she staked her entire campaign on, so what is the issue? The issue is that it is her only apparent mis-step and since there isn't anything else to attack her on, other than her clothes, she should be left to succeed.

Why do I support Sarah Palin? I support her and her message because she reminds me of the feisty spirit in so many of my friends and I that love our families, have a passion for work and balance it all...the Left can't understand that. It's one way or another in their logic. Stay confounded then. I support Sarah and she IS indeed a smart woman, and a sassy one too! I think she is terrific, refreshing, and obviously getting under all of your nerves! GO SARAH!

It is interesting that everyone has indeed rallied to Mrs. Obama's defense because someone insulted her looks yet it is ok to insult/joke about SP's daughters! I don't care if one of is a teen Mom or not, NOW and all other women nad people with human decency should have been calling for Letterman's hide immediately...not just when the sponsors spoke with their cash. This is not about elections and parties, it is about human decency. SP has a right to haul Letterman's A$$ to the woodshed. Go Sarah!

Those two posts stick out because they actually offer information to support their ideas - something rare on this thread. All I've seen from Palin supporters are references to her looks and her personality. "Judge" even thinks she should be "given certain allowances" because of her looks! It's almost as if some people believe a quality VP is simply someone gorgeous and willing to stick up for their family. If you say she is so intelligent, give an example of that intelligence.

And finally, quit spouting off about "liberal attacks". It wasn't a liberal who called S.R. a "joke" and "dumb". It wasn't a liberal who implied that Saunders is ugly. It wasn't a liberal who made fun of Michelle Obama's chin. Yes, there are equally low comments from the other side too - that's my point - quit acting like somehow "your side" is higher and mightier....it isn't!

P.S.

If posting daily rants about President Obama is simply "free speech", why the problem with all the negativity surrounding Palin? Don't both "sides" have the right to "free speech"?

It would be hard for Palin to beat Obama in an election. Remember, she only gets votes from 50 states, while O. wants to get them from all "57 states". And, Biden is not sure how many to expect votes from.

Look her now! Sarah Palin was kicked out of an all girls school when she was younger, for having sex with another female student.

So much for her conservative values hah!
