State park advocates argue against proposed cuts, closings

Advocates of California's state park system packed a budget conference committee meeting in Sacramento this week to argue against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposal to close more than 200 state parks, including several in the Bay Area.

What about the $1.6 billion remaining as part of Prop 84 (2006)? That money is allocated to a few things, one being specfically state parks.

No one will die if state parks close. That cannot be said about the Governor's other proposed cuts.

Why don't we sell the land where the parks reside and use the money for essential services.
