I will be voting no on G. G is a measure put forth by the teachers union to preserve pay increases in a recession. It is not about preserving education or safety in our schools. It is about teacher pay. A short term 4% pay cut, or a deferral of their planned increase would have solved this issue. Most of us can afford the extra $250/year. It isn't an issue of money. I'd gladly pay more the day the union allows us to let go of poor teachers, or sets up a pay for performance structure so we can pay great teachers more money, or gets rid of seniority as the only means to downsize when times are tough. GM files for bankruptcy tomorrow. Its the same problem - too much pension, to much pay, too LITTLE PERFORMANCE. Vote NO ON G!

And I'm voting yes on Measure G. I'm a lot less interested in sending messages than I am in preserving programs and keeping our schools good. You say "too little performance". Our schools are some of the best in the state and even the nation. Pleasanton schools are part of the reason our home values have held up better than others.

Hmmm. So again we equate a school district with GM? Can someone, anyone, PLEASE detail the things that a school district has in common with a car company?
When times are tough at a school the kids keep coming!? I say, sure let's downsize! We could test the kids and those who are let's say, learning challenged (read:stupid) can stay home - this should alleviate some of the financial burden and make things here at PUSD all better.

Sure - a lack of revenue to support the current and future projected level of expenditures.
In addition to GM, if measure G passes (which it will not), the district would also share something in common with AIG, Merril Lynch, and Bank of America. These three companies all received tax payer funds to maintain their operations and all paid out performance/retention bonuses shortly after to their staff.

The question is what do GM and the PUSD have in common....they both are union. They both cry "it's not in our contract" whenever they don't want to do something...even if it's for the good of the student. They both lack performance measures. It's extremely difficult if not impossible to get rid of a teacher or classified employee if they are not performing. They are bureaucratic and are paid insurance and pensions that very few companies (if any) can pay. If you are in the system for 10 years you get FULL medical benefits until you are 65....how expensive is that!!!! Who is paying those pensions and benefits....the taxpayers. There isn't enough money to save programs because it is costing too much to educate our children. The cost is in the union contracts that have outlived their purpose. We cannot afford these benefits any longer and that's why we're in the position we're in. The spending has got to be reduced or we cannot be competitive in manufacturing cars or educating students. They're similar. Once a parcel tax is implemented it will just grow.....it will never go away because the school system will become dependent on it. VOTE NO NOW.

Did anyone see the piece on Lehrer tonight? GM has 60,000 employees trying to support 360,000 retirees and spouses. How long does anyone think this can continue?

I would assert the term "Idiot" also includes individuals that inappropriately use the term "stupid" when referencing a classification system for developmentally delayed persons that is no longer in use and is now considered offensive.
