Boot Camp Dance at Marriot Incident?

Original post made by RaisingTeenagers on May 27, 2009

Does anyone know what really happended on the 23rd at the Marriot when the police shut down the Boot Camp teen dance? I saw some people getting arrested (or at least searched) when i dropped off at 7:00 and the police said they would be there all night patrolling, then i guess something happened later to cause them to close it down. There were police everywhere and rumors of drugs, guns, etc. Anyone know? Thanks

My kid was there and said that kids with guns showed up at the dance. The same DJ had another *dance* last year across from the sports park and someone fired shots at that dance too. I think the DJ is bringing in a differnt type of crowd to Pleasanton.

Having been witness to one of these dances I wish all parents could see what goes on at these. I partied in my day, but the girls had more clothes on, had less skin showing and above all, had respect for themselves. The young ladies today leave practically nothing to the imagination.

The promoter rents a facility and then advertises on MySpace and other mediums. The kids either buy tickets typically priced ($10-$25.00 for a dance. Sometimes they do a "Guest List" scam when places they rent do not allow ticket sales at the door.

The promoter hires some security people, DJ's etc., etc. For teen dances in PLEASANTON, the promotor usually applies for a permit and the Police Chief approves or disapproves the permit application. I am unsure whether the Chief approved this event at the Marriott.

Prior to this event there had been one scheduled for the Pleasanton Senior Center in March or April but it was cancelled at the last minute by the city when it sensed things were not right.

I would really caution parents in allowing their kids to attend these dances. The dancing I witnessed boiled down to sex with clothes on. They call it Freak Dancing, which essentially has a guy grinding his groin into the girl's behind. No other way to describe it.

The dance I saw was a Valentine's Dance. The girl's hardly wore clothes. They were dropped off by their parents. The kids would then ditch their sweat suits, jackets, sweaters, shirts, skirts, etc. in the bushes outside the facility and walked into the dance in their bras, lingerie,(Fredrick's of Hollywood type gear etc. . When the dance was over they got their clothes out of the bushes, put them back on and parents never knew the difference. The guys, interestingly enough, just wore their regular "saggy" pants and T-shirts.

It seems to me that our young women today degrade themselves so. It is sad to have seen such pretty girls "trash" themselves. You really should walk in and see what goes on. My wife was with me and she was shocked. I had no power to shut the dance down but would have in a nano-second if I could have. I wished I had taken a camera with me but then I probably would have been sued.

I hope parents would check these dances out a little better before tragedy stikes. Also talk to your girls about degrading themselves for the purpose of being noticed by a boy.

High school kids have no business going to dances that aren't put on by schools.
