No helmets required Around Town, posted by Tony Hawk, a resident of the Birdland neighborhood, on Apr 27, 2009 at 11:55 am
Yesterday I took my son to the bike/skate park off of Stoneridge Dr. It's a great facility, and a couple dozen kids were there on their bikes, skateboards, and scooters. But only three had their helmets on, despite a sign at the front requiring this. Can anyone tell me either why the police do not enforce this, or since they are not enforcing it, why the sign isn't removed? I don't like laws (or ordinances) if they aren't enforced.
And on a sde note, parents, why don't you make your kids wear their helmets?

I'm not going to call the cops, I'm just wondering why they don't enforce it. I'm sure that if a kid concusses himself at the bikepark that Pleasanton would be sued, so I'm not sure why we're not taking this preventative step.

Maybe the cops need to be made aware that there are kids skating without helmets. The cops do a great job in this town enforcing the law, but they can't be everywhere. Citizens need to make them aware of problems so the can take appropriate action. If you're concerned enough to write about it here pick up your cell phone and call.
