Livermore Parcel tax - from 5 years to 10 years
Schools & Kids, posted by NO ON G, a resident of the Another Pleasanton neighborhood neighborhood, on Apr 26, 2009 at 3:09 pm

Livermore passed a parcel tax measure in November 2004 at $120/parcel beginning July 2005. That parcel tax was renewed in November of 2008 for an additional five years with a slight increase. The purpose of the parcel tax was the following:

Attract and retain quality teachers

Maintain small classes

Provide college and job/career preparation classes

Maintain art/music/foreign language programs

Provide computers, infrastructure and instructional technology upgrades

Continue elementary science programs

Maintain high school counselors

If you check the Livermore School District website, www.livermoreschools.com and click on the Budget/Finance Info box, you will see that CSR, which the Livermore community ranked as its number one priority, is on the list of possible reductions.

The first parcel tax was scheduled to be only for five years. It's now going to extend to ten years. It has not guaranteed that class size reduction will continue.

The tax can go away if people can accept less services and programs.

I think a Prop.13 1/2 rebellion is due to put an end to parcel taxes which are unfair to property owners and should be illegal.
