Pool Time? Around Town, posted by Timothy T, a resident of the Downtown neighborhood, on Apr 26, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Anyone know of some good options for summer access to a pool?
I know the Aquatic Center is there but their hours are pretty limiting (They close rather early to be able to go there on a hot day after work) and I don't want to join Club Sport at $200/month for the family just to use the pool.
Any other suggestions from the intrepid PW readers?

My family belongs to Clubsport Pleasanton and has enjoyed the facilities. I feel that the membership dues are well spent because we not only use the pool, but also participate in family movie night, social events by the pool and more. They have plenty of pool space for families, they heat their pools year around and have the best operating pool hours you can find!

Your choices in P-town for a public type pool are only Club Sport, aquatic center, Castlewood, or PVC. Aquatic center is by far the cheapest. How many little kids are really there after work? I remember them being there in the afternoon. But if you want diving boards or slides the aquatic center is your only choice.

Good comments everyone! Thanks so much! I do have little kids (2 twin girls) so PVC may not be a fit. Looks like Club Sport is the option I have.
Anne: The Aquatic Center almost always has a reasonable crowd and plenty of room to play around. The problem is their hours. There are lots of days it's still very hot around 5 or 6 and I'd like to be come home from work by 5 and then still be able to take the girls swimming.
I'll try the San Ramon one too! Though the one behind Lucky's here in Pleasanton is a tough one to beat.

Pleasanton Valley Swim Club is a great place for families to spend their summers. They are open from Spring Break through Halloween (one of the longest seasons for any cabana club.) Not only do they have a championship swim team with swimmers from age 5 through 18, they offer social activities throughout the season - a sleepover for the little ones; movie nights at the club (just like going to a drive-in theater, with the little ones bringing their sleeping bags, and the adults in their lawn chairs, watching movies under the stars). There is an annual 'Adult Dinner and Music' at the club - we've previously had the outstanding Bell Brothers - one of the premier country acts in the Bay Area. This year we'll have a different genre of music, with outstanding catered cuisine.... Of course, we offer swim lessons and a 'Masters eLite' swim event - for our 'over 18' swimmers.... in addition to Red Cross training classes, PVC Idol, snack bar and so much more.
