Off-road vehicle - Really! Around Town, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Mar 30, 2009 at 4:28 pm
What was reported as a serious rollover accident on Foothill Road Saturday turned out to be something less when the driver of this Honda minivan pulled off on the shoulder a bit too far and slid sideways into a 10 foot deep drainage ditch. The unidentified drive wasn't hurt but police closed southbound Foothill briefly until the vehicle could be pulled out of the ditch. Photo by Jay Flachsbarth.

Second time in a year or so that I've seen a vehicle in the ditch along Foothill Road. It might be wise for the city to consider a guard rail, better signage, and/or reducing the depth of the ditch. That ditch never has large amounts of water in it, so I'm not sure it needs to be that deep anyway. It is a hazard to bike riders as well, because if they have to move to avoid a car or the other way round, someone's ride could end up in the ditch. Saturday was a competition at Foothill High School that brought in lots of people from out of town that have no idea of the ditch being there and the danger of pulling off the road a little too far!

Oooops. One of those accidents that you feel like an idiot and will make a great story for the driver in years to come. Glad it was not a big issue and no one was hurt
