Wine Tasting at Deer Ridge Vineyards

Original post made by Claudette McDermott, Del Prado, on Mar 30, 2009

This past weekend was bright sunny and festive as many Winegrowers introduced their wine to the public and their Wine Club Members with a variety of flavors. I attended Deer Ridge Vineyards in Livermore where their celebration provided Great Wine Tasting, Food, a great band in the outdoor patio and Fine Art & Artists in Action indoors. We were also treated by amazing impromptu piano playing by a few extremely talented people that felt comfortable in the fun filled atmosphere. Bravo! Artist Mask maker Carla Almanza-Dequant showed her talent and brought with her many of her painted masks in the style of Carnival, Venetian Style. Whimsical, colorful and full of fun her work and the artist was a joy to be around. Geraldine Arata Fine Art oil painter who also has a way with masks, showed her painting techniques while painting a classic still setting of a tabletop wine tasting. The bottle had the label of Deer Ridge Vineyards, plated fruit and a wine glass that danced with colorful reflections. Her other Fine Art works were hung throughout the Wine Tasting room that can be described as truly gifted works in oil on canvas. New Orleans brought out her talent in the genre of Life Like Carnival Masks. Smooth and silky strokes of light and dark they seem to pull away from the canvas with a life of their own. Torch Work Bead making was a sight to behold along with the sound when she turned on her flame torch to melt and bend glass rods that create her elegant works. HauteGlass Jewelry maker Kim Lonie of San Ramon, had a beautiful display of glass bead jewelry and some loose beads for sale while enjoying the public with their questions and delight of her artistry. I worked on jewelry as well, with Glass pendants and Soldering techniques, making wine bottle charms to hang around the bottle necks to be given as a gift with a bottle of wine. Some of the pendants I made were stained with ink, stamped with a variety of images and with another layer of glass was soldered decoratively to frame the artwork. Worn with your favorite chain or a beaded chain in a variety of Swarovsky crystals and tiny metal beads I had on hand, it created a fun display. Two other artist displayed and shared their work. One artist had a display of Large Bottle paintings one of which was a field of wildflowers where horses danced in the wind. The other jewelry maker was their displaying her stringing techniques.

I hope your weekend was full of joy and if you would like to share you experience at the Vineyard you visited this past weekend please feel free to comment.

Why does the weekly continue to allow this artist to write a column that is nothing other than a blatant grab at free advertising? Geez Jeb, get a grip. If your staff can't SELL advertising then fine, five it away. But stop allowing this "artist" to pretend to be writing an "article".

Cholo and Others...I see that you are usually the first to read and respond to my articles.

"Internet Bullies" and "Cyber Bashing" something a few of us are well aware of. Some people prowl the internet for opportunities to take advantage of chat rooms, blog boards.... and behind the skirts of anonymity they feed on those around them, those they feel are vulnerable... just remember "Internet Bullies and Cyber Bashers" there will come a time that you too become the prey. There is always someone bigger and nastier than you out there just waiting for you.

Cholo and others like him/her should be banned from this site. They unfortunately chase away earnest readers, many have told me they have stopped reading and taken Pleasanton Weekly off of their bookmarks as it irritates them that much.

Oh grow up Claudette. You are trying to leverage your column into a plug for your business and you are simply being called on it. It is not cyber bullying just because some people see no point at all to your ramblings. No one has threatened you so stop with the theatrics already.

You know what is funny? The only ones that would be concerned about if someone is getting Free Advertising is SomeOne like you who isn't getting theirs. Jealousy is Petty. Reporting on an Event that the Entire Winegrowing Valley was involved in is an Event that Thousands turned out for. Just about Every Article is an Advertisement for Someone or Some Entity. This Article Advertised the WeekEnd Event, Winegrowers, Annual Community Activity and All who participated. Don't Like WineTasting and Art? There are other Events to go to or to Be involved in. Petty People live Petty Lives.

Cyber bashing now your style? Cholo may be any number of things but you calling him names puts you at the same level as those you proclaim to dislike.
You are a failed merchant who apparently thinks that bashing those who are (which would never be me FYI)is good sport. And are all of those capitals in your writing supposed to lend credibility? anger? or just expose the illiterate and uneducated response?

Article "Like Mother, Like Daughter" contest names Faz & Strizzi's Restaurants coupons to promote their businesses. Why don't you comment there? Free Advertisements according to your viewpoint.

But of course you wouldn't comment there. It has nothing to do with art. You just hate artists and art.....? Or merchants that promote art and artists?

Taking a look to see what other areas are being heckled, and bashed I see that "A Perfect Proposal" is getting its share. Cholo I see your handy work as normal. Others too.... jumping on that bandwagon. The article is written by another PWeekly writer to give press to a business, Casa Real Event Center a Pleasanton business and Ruby Hill Winery. Getting a handful of bashing for those thirsty to dole it out. It seems any article that might give light or praise to any business is targeted by those same few, behind the skirt of anonymity, of course. They seem to be Against Capitalism, Democracy..... Free Enterprise, Free Press....

With businesses running below 40% and more and many closing their doors because of economic hard times, not to mention the horrible job loss by so many, I find you beyond reason to feel that you calling me a failed merchant should mean something....

Claudette, may I ask why you can take "shots" at others? When someone says something rude to you, you call them "cyber-bullies" or "trolls?" I'm not being mean, it's a serious question.
My opinion, when you can't contain your outbursts like that, some might think you are on the same level as those like "Cholo."

Hi merchie...I grew up in Buenos Aires, Donostia (Basque Country, Spain), London and CA!

I bet you didn't know that hundreds of thousands of Irish immigrated to Argentina!

I also know that you had no idea that Che Guevara had Irish ancestry.

You gonna have to take the HIGH ROAD and find a balance in your posts.

I still believe that you are not a very good painter!

Hi Carlos, My outbursts....well, being human and trying to take the high road gets a bit challenging at times. I have never called anyone a troll, only cyber bullies and bashers. If you have been following my articles you will undoubtedly see Cholo as one that has really laid it on thick. I haven't sunken to his/her level only tried to point out and correct some of his misinformation and if that seems sinking to his/her level, I can only say that I'm human. Not perfect. Why doesn't anyone point out his/her rudeness or the other bullies out there....? I've heard of the silent majority but hey, a girl needs a hand now and then :) People have told me to ignore the riff raff, and not respond. Do you think that's the wise way to handle it? Turn a blink eye? It would be easier if others would speak up on my behalf.

I do want to apologize to those that have been reading my articles and find that I have been rude to those I find have offended me first. When you do see someone being rude in any of the articles listed on Pleasanton Weekly, please speak up in our defense so we don't feel alone, cornered and a need to strike back. Thank you, Mahalo.

You just can't accept being busted for using this blog to promote your trinkets. Always an excuse, always blaming others, you shoot from the hip and then point the finger away from yourself. Always at it, threatening others, threatening to sick your live in man on posters because he has a few muscles, giving the impression that the Irish are about getting blitzed!

Give it a rest merchie...like you say, "I have been rude to to those I find have offended me first." Has it ever occurred to you that you pull for the negativity from posters? Incidentally, who wears the pants in your home?

Afraid to call out the other people who have offended you? How come only somebody called Cholo? Are you really so vulnerable or just a drama queen?

Is this for real?

Ma'am, maybe there's no such thing as bad press, but I wouldn't want to advertise that you can be trolled out on a local message board.

Cholo and Freeadvertising, you have advanced from Trolls to Balrogs. Respect...
