Crimes & Incidents, posted by Editor, Pleasanton Weekly Online, on Feb 24, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Nearly a year after a couple was brutally slain in their Castlewood home, authorities have arrested the son for their murders. Ernest Scherer III, 30, was arrested at 6 p.m. Monday night in Las Vegas by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. "As of right now, we have sheriff's homicide investigators in Las Vegas and we are working on the extradition of Mr. Scherer back here to Alameda County," said Sgt. J.D. Nelson.

I hope the son gets the death penalty. As Gilbert and Sullivan said "Let the punishment fit the crime". It is unfortunate that he won't be able to suffer as cruel a fate as his parents did.

Hats off to Scott Dudek and the Sheriffs deputies involved, they pursued this until they got their man....lets hope that the court system backs them up.

Was she his birth mother?

Posted by Lu, a resident of the Stoneridge neighborhood, on Feb 27, 2009 at 10:46 am

Yes Cherie was his birth mother. I knew her as a friend. I will never be able to understand how he could have done this. From the beginning I felt that he had something to do with it, but I kept trying to persuade myself that someone would not be capable of doing something like that to his mother let alone his father. Kudos to the investigating work done on this case. Scott Dudek and those working with hime deserve many KUDOS.

Aaron: "What a piece of crap ..."

It goes far beyond that statement, although you are right.

What a totally disfunctional family to allow things to get so out of whack with all the gambling, etc. I'm sure they didn't see this one coming????

Almost 3-Years after the murders, Ernie-3 is currently on trial for Double Homicide with 2 sets of Special Circumstances; 1) Multiple Murders, 2) Murder for Financial Gain

It's now been shown to jurors he had been living a double life from that of his wife & family. He was involved with another woman for 2-Years at the time of his parents' murders & the two spoke everyday.

He he also led double lives from his initial double life too, having had several girlfriends all at the same time without any of the women knowing.

Married for 9-Years, he had placed several CraigsList Personal Ads on its website all across the United States while claiming to be single.

It's not looking too good for Ernie-3 right now at his trial, based on what the Jury has heard thus far.... If convicted, he will be automatically sentenced to Life Without Parole.

The above was just the womanizing, the Jury has also heard plenty of tasks Ernie-3 did before the March 7, 2008 murders. Being in Las Vegas, all his tasks were caught on several surveillance tapes which the Jury has since watched.

Alameda County Sheriff's Department's introduction & 1st encounter with Ernie-3 took place the day after he was notified of his parents' murder. Ernie-3 showed up at his parents' Pleasanton home, having traveled from Las Vegas, only to be stopped by the yellow "Police Crime Scene" tape which established a perimeter around the entire property. He demanded Police allow him inside his parents' house because he needed their "Will."

Great way to take yourself from obscurity to making yourself the #1-Suspect.
