Dead Bird in Yard-Advice Sought Around Town, posted by Joanna, a resident of the Danbury Park neighborhood, on Feb 9, 2009 at 10:38 am
I found a dead bird on the grass in my backyard. A dove or pigeon. What do I do with it? How do I dispose of it? Any advice would be helpful. I put a ceramic flower pot over it so my dog woudn't touch it and two weeks have gone by. Now I'm afraid to look at it. However, something must be done. Exactly what would that be? Thank you kind neighbors.

Thank you Stacey. I'm scared. One of it's wings in now poking out of the little hole in the bottom of the flowerpot. Which means the thing is moving in its dead state. Rigor mortis, I suppose. Great.

Keep your dog inside one night, remove the pot - a neighborhood cat/skunk/raccoon will remove the bird for you...:):)
As unclehomerr said - It could be a Norwegian Blue. They're migrating through this part of the country this time of year. If I'm not mistaken, they're on the endangered list...

Well, I'll try that cuz it's the wimpy way. I'd rather not handle it, even through plastic bags. I hope the cat, skunk or raccoon doesn't get sick.
BTW, I always keep my dog inside at night because I would not want her random barking to disturb my neighbors. If only everyone were as considerate as I am; you'd all be smiling and well rested.
