Staceys - How I love it

Original post made by Ty-Town on Aug 28, 2007

Not all my restaurant posts will be nagative, but we usually get noticed for negative news anyway. I was at Staceys last week on a Tuesday and was greeted with the warm smile of PJ. After being seated our server gave us the specials by memory without a cheat sheet or a board to look at (Impressive). The food was quick complemented with a great Pino Grigio and service with a smile all the way. Food-5, Service-5, Ambiance-4 (We were sitting on plastic chairs you would find at your grandmothers house) Scale 1-5.

I have always liked going to Stacey's, but it seems to be getting on the expensive side (or maybe I don't eat out enough). $20 (incl. tax and tip) for macaroni & cheese seems way to much to me. We also sat on the plastic chairs, which were OK, but could be upgraded. Service was OK (no offer to bring more bread).

The waitstaff at Stacey's is very nice. I think the food could use some improving. Scott's favorite pasta is disappointing. Basically tastes like garlic and pasta. We had a little chocolate cake for dessert, which was okay, nothing great. The chef should go to Pasta Pomodoro in San Ramon, (the Whole Foods shopping center), and try the little chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert. That thing is excellent. The chocolate flavor is fantastic, it's warm, with a runny center, and with real whipped cream and a little vanilla ice cream...it's so good. Also, their butternut squash ravioli with browned butter and sage is sublime. See, there's nothing at Stacey's that makes me feel that way. That makes me feel like 'we have to go back and have that...' whatever.
Also, I'm served tepid cappucinno at Stacey's. I have to ask for heat. I had to explain how to make it hotter, by steaming the milk longer. The waitress looked at me helplessy when I asked for a hot capuccino.
Stacey's is in a good location and has a nice staff. They just need to come up with some better dishes. I'm willing to pay.
