Bay Area DUI arrests, fatalities up over same period year ago

California Highway Patrol officers have arrested 116 drunken drivers in the Bay Area so far during their maximum enforcement period that continues through Tuesday.

Those numbers would easily come down if they would cease with the dragnet sobriety "checkpoints".

Thank you Highway Patrol officers for a job well done! The "checkpoints" have taken 116 drunks off the roads! Gracias...

Don't be surprised if the drunks that didn't get caught trash you.

Checkpoints are a proven effective deterrent to drunk driving.

Great job by the CHP but the rest of the Alameda CO. law enforcement agencies more than doubled those numbers. ANd the arrests are just the tip of a huge ice berg!

John - just having lower numbers doesn't mean the drunks aren't still on the roads. Just ask the families of the two DUI fatalities, or me,
