Gas station with lower price and fewer customers

Original post made by kbenson, Bordeaux Estates, on Sep 20, 2013

I drive by the 2 gas station Chevron and shell (soon or now 76)

Found it odd that quite a few customers stick with chevron, when price @ the other station is 10 cents per gallon less. (last week it was 20 cents per gallon less and still 1-2 customers at shell/76, compared to 5 or greater at chevron.

Is it due to the safeway gas discount perk? or do people think chevron gas is better and or they have extra money to spend.

Probably several reasons: Many people don't trust independent stations, especially when they are as shoddy looking as the former Shell. Chevron, as well as Shell and 76, are "Top Tier" fuels which meet higher standards for the detergent additives that are used in the fuel. The Safeway discounts no doubt draw in customers, especially those that are annoyed by the premium Safeway now charges for using a credit card.

I've always stuck to the high quality gasoline and will pay a little more to get it since over the life of the car, it just make perfect sense and the car will run noticeably better with quality gas in it. However, the discounts I get - and good gas - from using my safeway card is undeniably the reason I go to their pumps (and can get Starbucks in the process). I've been enjoying 40 cents off the last two times I filled my vehicle by using my safeway points. So, that being said, I will continue to save where I am right now. Safeway is a local company - headquartered right here in Pleasanton - they hire locally as well. Win, Win!! P.S. I don't work for Safeway either.

If gas stations want to stay in business, explore ways to compete with Safeway...i rest my case!

Perhaps alliances with various business...figure it out or you will not be in business very long.
