BART strike off for at least another 60 days

BART negotiations between management and two worker unions ended Sunday evening with little progress, but trains will be running today after a San Francisco Superior Court judge ordered a 60-day cooling off period.

I would like to see everyone come to some common ground on the Bart strike and wage agreements. Short of that I hope Bart can beat the unions and do away with them as they have done nothing but demand money from Bart and not willing to understand what all they already have.

Hopefully, justice will prevail and there will be a satisfactory resolution.

Sorry residents of Plutonia, you will NOT be involved in the actual negotiations between the Union & BART.

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be!

Use these 60 days to train up their replacements and be done with it. It is time to put an end to public employee union.

60 additional days for Bart management's PR machine to work hand in hand with the corporate media in an effort to cast workers' reasonable demands for a raise 'outrageous' while neglecting to mention that management is 'offering' a pay cut over the next 4-5 years.

Let's see, we get to believe BART's PR machine or the union PR machine. Which do I believe. BART! The unions do not have the taxpayers interest at all. BART does. BART is concerned on having to raise fares again and not being able to replace the trains that are so old. The unions see train replacement funds as their money and that riders should pay whatever fare it takes.


The unions were offered a raise, and they have rejected it.
The unions have 100% taxpayer-funded defined benefit pensions
The unions have $92/month health insurance, no matter the size of the family or cost of the insurance
The unions work less than 40 hours a week (unless they also add in overtime).
The unions can call in 'sick' or take a vacation day and then work on their day off and get paid overtime
The unions can continue to receive the $92/month health insurance, even after they leave BART.
The unions still get step raises, which they fail to mention.
The unions are demanding that if they pay the 7% of the pension cost that BART pays them 6.5% more in salary. Essentially saying they will pay only 1/2%.
None of these union jobs require any college training.

Mike, tell us which of these facts above are incorrect.

Fire all striking BART employees now. These SLUGS can easily be replaced a half the compensation. Then tell you state legislators that if they don't pass a law banning strikes by government employees that you are going to vote them out of office.

Thank you mm for your list of simple facts. How can there even be discussions when it is all so plain and simple. The dollar & cent and contractual facts would speak to any intelligent mind...loud and clear.
Add to that, this particular moment in history is the WRONG time for unions to throw their greedy temper tantrums ! They are currently wrapped in their cushy, excessive contracts. Not being informed or educated, they obviously are not aware there is a severe, extended non-recovery going on around them, and no signs it's changing soon. First, there is no financial justification for their demands, and THEIR calendar is irrelevant. This economy RULES us all ! So dummies, there is no sympathy for your tantrum at this time. Timing is everything in life. This is the wrong time for union greed. Wake up! Shut up!

I'll being with the first "fact" that mm presents, and leave it at that.

Fact: BART management has offered BART workers a pay cut, not a pay raise as mm lies about.

I'll not waste my time dealing with the remainder of his lies.

Mike has no sense of reality. If my health insurance premium goes up, that does not mean that I get a pay cut. If social security or medicare tax goes up, that does not mean I get a pay cut. I might have less money to spend but that is not a pay cut. I guess Mike figures that if the price of gas, food, or rent goes up, he is getting a pay cut. Following his example, if the union gets their demands and the BART fares go up, every BART rider has just been given a pay cut. The BART union does not care for the rider and their plight, only looking after themselves. No surprise.

It is time to admit that the salaries are already over market rate and the pension and medical insurance was a freebie gift that is over. Be happy that you were able to soak the riders for this long.

As for the other facts, I am glad that Mike agrees on those points.
