Regents Pick Controversial Politician as New President

Original post made by Aunt Fergie, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Jul 12, 2013

It has just been announced that the next President of the University of California will be Janet Napolitano, the embattled U. S. Secretary of Homeland Security. With the University of California facing a wide variety of challenges, one wonders why they would turn to the embattled Napolitano. Her track record at Homeland Security has certainly been less than stellar, many would say incompetent. She is highly political and has carried out some exceedingly questionable portions of Obama's agenda without question. Furthermore, she is an attorney, probably not a optimal profession for being a University President. This appointment suggests the regents were looking for a liberal political operative much more than a recognized academic with a proven track record of university administration.
Big question -- is she fleeing her Cabinet post to avoid being pressured to be yet another of Obama's Cabinet to commit perjury.

Huh? She was an Arizona official, and went to her DC post from Arizona. When did she become interested in Ca CSU and UC history and policies?? Californians passed prop 209. It's time we stick to this proposition passed overwhelmingly by Californians. Our legal, native-born Californians are entitled to equal treatment, without illegal preferences to others.
Regents and President need to uphold 209, since our attorney generals and other UC presidents have not.(only giving lip service).

We send our kids to these schools to become EDUCATED. I can't believe with all the fine educators/administrators in this state, the Board of Regents picked her. Of course, when you consider that Sherry Lansing, a former actress and film executive, is the regent who made the announcement, then you can understand why UC is no longer a premier system. Why can't this country select real leaders for our institutions?

I think Napolitano is an interesting choice. The UC system (which is distinct from the CSU system) a large and unwieldy. As Governor of Arizona and head of Homeland Security Napolitano has distinguished herself as being smart, extremely competent, and fair-minded.

Presidents of systems the size of UC need not be academics. They do not have involvement in hiring/tenure/promotion decisions, which are best left to administrators who have earned respect in the academic arena. I doubt she will treat the UC system as a business enterprise as some recently installed presidents around the country have done with embarrassingly ill effects.

"head of Homeland Security Napolitano has distinguished herself as being smart, extremely competent, and fair-minded." Excellent sarcasm there, chauncey. So glad my kids are in the CSU system, which has not yet been totally ruined by liberal incompetents. And so, the UC system starts circling the drain, along with money from scores of unwitting parents......

I think that Napolitano has been hired to monitor the Board Regents and to figure out how they are making so much money in their positions on the board! Perhaps there is more than one conflict of interest re: Board of Regents.

Americans can expect the income for the board to skyrocket in the next 10 yrs. and the fees for students to increase. Also, it's also quite likely that salary increases for faculty to remain relatively LOW!

I think she's the perfect choice, someone who couldn't control the borders as Gov. of Arizona and Sec. of Homeland Security, going to lead the UC system which gives in state tuition to illegal immigrants!

No sarcasm intended whatsoever, Chancy. Napolitano was a more than adequate governor; and her role with Homeland Security was performed with distinction. Want to compare her to, say, Condy Rice?

Don't quite understand the depth of stupidity that would entail bragging that one's kids are going to CSU instead of UC. That's like bragging that one's kids are cab drivers instead of brain surgeons. It's also quite reflective of your parenting which, believe me, your kids will not brag about to others as they get older.

By the way, though you've clearly established you don't know a thing about higher education, please share with us who you think would be a better selection than Napolitano. Oh, Donald Rumsfeld? Ann Coulter? Sarah Palin? Thought so.

Chauncey, I see that us dropouts like yourself immediately resort to insults and personal attacks, which only highlights the by products of your liberal uc 'education' (indoctrination).
The only coherent part of your post was a question about who (anyone) that would be more qualified....how about someone who has any experience in the calif public school system. You do know Santa Clara is a private college, right? Slightly ironic, don'tcha think? Or, do you?

If you can't debate the points or defend your position, then just resort to personal attacks. No need to read Chauncey's posts any further.

Chauncey,
If you think Napolitano was "more than adequate governor, and her role with Homeland Security was performed with distinction" then left wing looniness is clearly impairing your thinking.

What a bunch of backwards people you are in Pleasanton...

She has more smarts on her little finger than you have in your entire body.

Makes me wonder why I even spend a few minutes on this website...

liberalism is a disease is a registered user.

Geez, we wonder why you waste space posting here, as well. Yup, we here in Pleasanton are all backwards because we don't agree with your leftist ideology. Far be it for us to require a qualified educator to run a college system. What you have here is a far left political hack who is taking a highly paid position and will further negatively impact the quality of our schools. He would be better suited working for the border patrol to see the chaos that Americans living in that war zone have to endure trying to defend their property.
You really need to get out of your liberal bubble once in a while and look around and remember where you are and why you came to this area.
