Democrats propose renaming Independence Day to 4th of July

Original post made by freedom fighter, another community, on Jul 3, 2013

Leading Democrats in the Congress have called for support of new legislation sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) S.1776: The Holiday Simplification and Fairness Act of 2013.

The legislation officially changes the name of Independence Day to the 4th of July. President Barack Obama, on vacation in his African ancestral homeland, characterized the legislation as "an important step forward". Rep Keith Ellison (D-MN) called upon the 76 members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Democrats who are also members of the Communist Party, to support the legislation. "With single payer health care, repeal of the 2nd Amendment, and a number of other important issues facing the next Congress, ridding America of the notion that we are celebrating independence is critical at this important juncture in history".

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated in her weekly press briefing, "The American people need the government. They need more support and assistance in their day-to-day lives. No one disputes this fact. Whether we are talking about an infant who needs formula, or a part-time college student who needs beer & ramen noodles, or even a senior who simply needs euthanasia services, the American people should be given all of the government they can take.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo declared her support for a further initiative to rename the largest city in America named Independence, in her home state of Missouri to Dependence. "By simply removing the first two letters of the name of the city, we will achieve savings for main street. Smaller signs and fewer letters in the name is just commonsense reform which will make the lives of Missourians easierer."

It looks like my bizarro-world counterpart is having one of his episodes again. Personally, I blame Obamacare.

hahaha...I waited to comment on this article until I got through yesterday (July 4th) and have some evidence. Everyone, and I am talking about a minimum of the 5 dozen or so people I ran into or sms'ed with yesterday (July 4th)wished me a "Happy 4th of July". No-one, not one single person, wished me a "Happy Independence Day"....this included democrats, republicans, some independents, and even some green party followers; very religious to atheists, straight and gay....everyone thinks of it as "the 4th of July"

The point at which an individual or group uses straw-man or other extreme arguments to demonize the opposition is the point at which that individual or group loses credibility. Either you are so undereducated that you fall for such fallacious logic, or you think that I am. Either alternative is problematic.

In other news, the same inane demoncrats want to change Christmas Day to be called the 25th of December. More attention will be focused on holidays that really matter to democrap voters, like Che Guevara's birthday, ramadan and mohammed's birthday.

Bernie Sanders has always been a Socialist, always voting with Dems. Count for years was X Dems, X Repubs, and 1 Socialist. Maybe current Admin thought it would be more favorable and PC, to be called Independent.
(footnote:in CA we have NO official 'Independents' because there is no Independent party, just independent thinkers, and registered Decline To State, DTS)

agree w anon, cholo offers nothing to conversations, only introduces the inane, and complicates genuine discussion.

Of course Democrats would try to remove 'Independence' from our lexicon. They couldn't stay in power if individual Americans actually practiced real independence. Dependency is how Dems keep the party alive...getting individuals 'hooked' on government/taxpayer handouts, then keep voting to keep it.

Merry Christmas, Happy holidays, happy chaunika, ..... Really... It's our individual actions that matter.. Form over substance... The litmus test for humans that baffles Christians/conservatives.
