TRUNK signs... Bernal Plaza

Original post made by Claudette McDermott, Del Prado, on May 8, 2013

After seeing this sign GROWING OUT OF THE TRUNK of a car Parked at Bernal Plaza on the CORNER OF VALLEY AND BERNAL, for the last couple of weeks, I decided to take action. I had thought by now the Police would have gotten this taken care of. And what I mean by that is Take This Sign Down and give the business a warning. Contact the owner with License plate 6JXK575

Talk about Bringing the Neighborhood Down! Makes Pleasanton look like a Scuzzy place to live. I didn't move here to get this kind of feeling for my surroundings ~ MASSAGE SIGN MUST GO if it's sticking out of a trunk facing heavy traffic or anywhere else in Pleasanton.

Does anyone else agree....?

I agree. I do not support this type of "guerilla" advertising. You see this type of promotion in San Jose and it contributes to the visual blight in many neighborhoods. I'm not against free enterprise, but the owner of the massage place should use more traditional methods of promoting their business.

I don't think there is much the PD can do. It is in a vehicle and not on property. The city municipal code can regulate this if it were on a property but since this is in a vehicle, it is governed by the California Vehicle Code.

I think your best bet is to have people go to that business and say they did not appreciate the sign and you will telling everybody you know, in person and online, to not frequent that establishment. That is, nothing legally you can do but it will hurt their business and you hope that they see the light.

I agree the sign should go.
But I do not think the PD can do anything about the sign. But if you call the number the person who answers can not speak English very well.

But if ask for the special they say they will take care of you. Meaning there is more going on then just a Massage likely prostitution now the PD should get involved along with the other tenants.
Call a few of them and tell them you will stop going to there location if they do not take action.

This is not a big deal and just someone trying to make some money in this economy. I am ok with it and think it is fine. I would like the police working on real issues like the bank robbery at Chase bank and such.

There was no mention of minorities in the article so don't try to pick a fight. She asked what everyone thought, that's all.

Actually pretty art idea in the way of advertising... Perhaps a few more businesses should take a cue and jockey for position in this heavily trafficked place!

If it isn't obscuring vision or posing a safety hazard I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

As for those claiming this is not a race issue ... please, we weren't born yesterday. Big billboard with BANK IN YOUR FACE, no problem! Little sign in the back of a pick-up truck for a massage and everyone starts getting bent out of shape, talking about making the neighborhood 'scuzzy' and how the business employees don't speak proper English. C'mon. If many of you had your way you'd be chasing the ethnics out of the city with pitchforks in your hands. Your denials are pathetic.

It doesn't pay to post anything without requesting it be open for "Comment Only by those that Sign In first" ~ Hence the rants of Cholo ~

I wanted to hear from real people in our community, their thoughts on the matter. I did get a few, so thank you to those that did give their honest opinion. Signing off now ~ I must count my millions ;) My favorite past time you know, besides painting ~

The OP gave the sign owner some free advertisement, by posting the pic on this site.
