Gun Ownership Freedom Vs. Darwin-Citing Democrats: Who Next Will Democrats Invoke, Calvin and Hobbes?

Original post made by Charles the Free, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Apr 18, 2013

When dealing with the Democrat Party in this country, we just have to accept that we're not dealing with the brightest bulbs on the tree. Even after Americans have spoken up loudly and clearly, the Democrats try to use invalid arguments that involve calling free Americans "gun-control Darwinists."

Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, for example, lashed out at Republicans and other freedom seekers after the defeat of gun-control legislation in the Senate yesterday, deriding them as "gun-control Darwinists."

In an appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show, the Democratic senator told Maddow that Republicans have "made it clear that they are just kind of gun-control Darwinists at this point who just think that we should give a whole bunch of guns to the good guys and to the bad guys, and let them shoot it out, and hope that the good guys win," he said. "That's their agenda."

Well, first of all, any idiot knows that Darwin never wrote on guns. In fact, he wasn't even an American.

Second, only an idiot would think that background checks on gun buyers would somehow turn back time and save the kids that were killed at Newtown. Newtown has already occurred, so why bother with that -- unless you're a useless party using Newtown as a prop to indoctrinate American freedom seekers with anti-gun nonsense?

Third, yes it is true that guns in the home are more likely to be used on self or a family member than on a criminal trespasser or govt agent sent to take your gun away, but that's our constitutional right. Any effort to make shooting oneself or one's relatives more difficult is just another expression of the Nanny State.

The Senate yesterday gave President Obama the first major legislative defeat of his second term, voting down by a 54–46 margin a compromise that would have expanded background checks. Obama used the occasion to whine about 90% of the American public supporting background checks. Even a blabbering Democrat should know that polls showed only 85% of Americans favoring background checks. Which makes Obama the liar he is.

Neither of you know what Darwinism is. And I'm pretty sure Obama isn't the only politician who rounds up.

Who's the idiot? Let me get this straight. You're saying that US shouldn't have more restrictive gun laws because "only" 85% of citizens desire them?

And, since you raise repeatedly the charge of idiocy, you're claiming that more restrictive gun laws should be voted down because (1) Newtown is already behind us and, apparently, that potential future massacres should be of no interest to us? And (2) you don't think the fact that ownship of a gun makes it more likely it will be used against someone in the owner's household v. trespassers is a fact worth considering?

Idiocy? Pot, meet Kettle.

I don't have a problem with Americans owning guns.

I think it's one way to deter certain violent situations.

The world has become an increasingly dangerous. I will always do my best to never use a gun to harm another person. However, a gun could also save my life.

I don't have a problem with Americans owning guns either. I would, however, along with most Americans, like more extensive background checks, as well as a limit on automatics and magazine capacity. Also, despite your heartfelt assurances, odds are Cholo, that that gun you possess will more likely be used on self or someone close to you than on a dangerous fiend who decides to prey upon you, or the nextdoor neighbor kid who decides to steal a bicycle from your garage.

"The world has become an increasingly dangerous."

The U.S. is becoming increasingly safe.

Sending a handy list of gunowners to Sacto or DC, for future confiscation,, is unfair to future generations, who are entitled to our founders idea of personal liberty even if we have some today who are willing to toss it all.
We have shallow and gullible nitwits among us, who think Boston bombers are ok, but lawful gun owners are not ? ? ? Next they'll be chanting that Ace hardware can no longer sell nails.....SAME (il)logic! !
As for LABELING youth as mentality unstable, is forever deeming them UNemployable. So you're stepping up to be his financial support for life, or deciding all taxpayers will care for any youths who seek 3 sessions of counseling...So parents bribe a counselor to keep the LABEL off their child. I fear for America, that we even have such 'burn 'em at the stake' people who would CONSIDER such non 'solutions'. Those are the scary folk..well meaning fools.
Be VERY careful where you tread. The LABELING of youths will PREVENT youths and parents from seeking help. Don't forget half the psychs are more 'confused' than their patients, which is why they studied the field in the first place.
Sadly, I see in today's paper, the scary Sacto crowd, themselves unfit creeps, EACH EAGER to be the 'authors' of insane, illogical CA gun laws......already the most restrictive of our 50 states...EGOs just want their names on more Ca Crap.
Tread carefully. The UNintended consequences from stupid laws could be severe.

John, I don't know what a safer/more dangerous world has to do with gun controls that threaten to take away our precious 2nd amendment freedom to arm ourselves to the hilt if we want to, and yes even if that means endangering our family members in the process. I usually don't just leave my guns around the house except occasionally when I'm cleaning them. But even if that puts my children at risk, it's my right as their parent to put them at risk. There's nothing in the Constitution that states I must forfeit my gun-cleaning rights for the sake of my children's safety.

I agree with you, Freedom Advocate, and compliment you on the brightest post I've ever read. First they'll take away our guns, then they'll take away our nails. Its a very steep and slippery slope. And I've read all too many accounts in the media that have said the Boston bombings are okay, but gun ownership is wrong. That's the nitwit liberal media for you!

And you hit the soon to be disappeared nail on the head when you talk about parents bribing psychologists and teens being labeled unfit for gun ownership who then might not be able to later get a job as a police officer or security guard.

If anybody needs their guns taken from them, it's the scary psychologists who are either insane, liberal nimrods, or both. But if I'm willing to grant even them gun owner rights, then surely any psychologically unstable teen with violent tendencies should be able to have a gun too. And if an occasional Newtown occurs? Well, tough toenails. That's the price for making sure we are all free, even troubled youths with violent tendencies. Let's make sure they can get jobs in the future.
