Olivia Sanwong

Original post made by Confused., Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Apr 1, 2013

I'm confused. I've been trying to read up on the candidates and am getting conflicting information.

On the one hand, there is Olivia Sanwong, who on her candidate webpage says she worked at The Hopyard after she graduated from college.

But on LinkedIn, it says she was a lecturer at Bangkok University for one year after college who " Developed lecture material and taught courses in Computing, Mathematics, and English. "

But on the Boston UCLA webpage it says...after college she spent a year traveling all over the world: Web Link "The year in between graduating from UCLA and moving to Boston, she had a fun-filled year working and traveling all over the world.

Which is it?

Hi, thanks for the question --

Here is a quick summary of the time period in question:

* September 2000 - finished undergraduate studies at UCLA
* October 2000 - started contract at Bangkok University in Thailand
* April 2001 - finished contract at Bangkok University in Thailand
* April to May 2001 - traveled throughout Southeast Asia
* May to August 2001 - worked at The Hopyard
* August 2001 - traveled to Boston and Europe
* September 2001 - started job based in Boston

Hope this clears things up!

That's why people post things like the above by confused. If confused was really researching the candidates confused might learn about Olivia's stellar education and her current business experience. If confused spent time talking to Olivia it would be apparent that this is a woman who loves her hometown, understands government and represents an entire group of people who currently have no voice on this city council.

I want my voice heard. I want my issues represented. I have looked at the other candidates and I am voting for Olivia.

Actually 'feeling threatened?' I have no idea what you are talking about. I was looking at the Registrar of Voters website here Web Link that shows the ballot statements and reading what the candidates said.

I also don't know what this part means about 'disrupt existing systems': It says: "I have spent my entire career exploring the technologies and business models that not only disrupt existing systems, but also create transformational innovation." I thought 'disrupt' had a negative connotation.

I also went the candidate's webpage to see what was said about what was referred to in the candidate statement: "economic development, population growth, urban design, fiscal sustainability, and the environment" in the Alameda County ballot booklet.

When I looked at the web page for the candidate, I saw this list below and there did not find any further information on the City Council priorities listed other than a one word description.

- Civic Innovation
- Technology
- Economic Development
- Fiscal Sustainability
- Nurturing our Shared Cultural Values
- Education
- Urban Design
- The Environment

Are the links broken? I saw only one active link about Fiscal Sustainability and when clicking it talked about an Oakland hacking event. I'm also wondering what a City Council candidate's platform is about that includes doing something about "Population Growth."

So I looked at Olivia's web site and it says Olivia has been a member of the community since 1981. But looking at what's posted above, its pretty clear she has not been a resident of the community since 1981 since she took a job in Boston and it looks like she worked at least 2 years there if not more. This seems to be overstated.

Olivia, if you're going to get into the nasty world of politics, even at the small-town local level, you'd be well-served by understanding that nothing is "offline" for you anymore, including this discussion. Welcome to a world where every aspect of your life is now on full public display, like it or not.

liberalism is a disease is a registered user.

Based on the information posted above and at the attached links, you have all the information you need to vote for any of the other candidates. Either Olivia is not ready for prime time, or she's trying to play the residents of our city. In either case, there are several other qualified candidates who have lived in our city full time for years......

Olivia - Please do not take it offline. As an undecided voter, I would love to see your reply.
