I was waiting to see which way Clean Water Action would swing their support. God only knows we want clean water coming out of our taps.

Now, do you think Clean Water Action could influence Pete Stark to actually make a public appearance where he can actually be asked
about his views on various subjects.

For example has his campaign decided they are willing to participate in any campaign forums or debates. You know, like the League of Women Voter puts on.
Where you stand up and let the voters see if you're still capable of speaking to the issues.

Thus far, from what I read, Pete has said he will refuse to engage in any such public events.
The says the media just asks "stupid questions".. to which he is apparently fearful he will give stupid sounding answers.

Look, if the only exposure the Stark campaign is willing to allow is via a pile of 15 or 25 mailers in our stuffed boxes, then it hardly speaks well of Pete's current abilities to hold office for another 2 years.

Pete, why won't you make public appearances during this campaig?
Please reconsider if you want our votes. Don't (no pun intended) "mail it in".

"The organization said it only endorses candidates "who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment
to protecting the environment and solving environmental issues that many communities face.""

How about a commitnent to be honest? The guy is collecting social security for his children! He is playing the system. My father could have collected social security too but did not because he was still working and well off, why do people like Stark feel entitled to abuse a system that is going broke?

I am NOT voting for Stark, and I hope others do the same.

We need someone who will think about others, and about solutions to problems like the social security fund which is going broke! We do not need dishonest people who milk the system just because they can.

Shame on you Stark, for collecting social security, and shame on all who endorse dishonest Stark!

", Pete has said he will refuse to engage in any such public events. "

I am not surprised, he probably wants to avoid ansering questions about why he is collecting social security for his kids, knowing that he is still working and does not need the money, and knowing that the social security fund is in trouble.

Shame on Stark! Do not vote for him! I won't

It was, in fact, the PW which reported the story about Stark collecting social security benefits for his children:

Here is how Stark is playing the system:

"Stark's $174,000 annual salary precludes him from collecting Social Security payments as he earns more than allowed under the earnings cap in the law. However, his children are still eligible for Social Security benefits because their father is eligible to collect the benefit, even if he makes too much money to collect his own check."

Clearly Pete Start has abandoned representing the "people". He appears to favor representing special interest group donations over the voter. At least that's how it appears to me. Yes, on occasion, through no fault of his own, Special Interest's and the need of the people coincide, such as on clean water. But that accident does not make him a hero.

Having looked at his voting record (when he does vote), and his strategy to avoid reveling his position on the issues in any public forum, I'm convinced that he is not really interested in the job per se. He desires the position solely for the benefits (financial and other wise) that it brings. Most times the interest of the people, of our nation, are secondary, if even that high a priority.

He will not have my vote. I encourage everyone in the "New" district to elect a "New" representative. It's time.

This is why any candidate that is supported by The Clean Water Action organization, the Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters should not be supported. I'm a conservative and will support Eric Swalwell. This man, Stark, is a vile individual and this tells me the agenda of The Clean Water Action organization, the Sierra Club and League of Conservation Voters.

Who cares?

Stark is a dishonest bully. The Democrat establishment that continues to rally around this ebarassment should be ashamed of themselves.

It is hard to fathom how any organization can support somebody like Pete Stark. The comments made so far cover very well that this man is unfit to continue to represent anybody. His record of dishonesty, arrogance, disregard for the truth and public record of "nothing" since the mid 90's should make us all vote to kick this man out of office.

Pete Stark has been around in the public eye so long, that he should have a gray beard all the way down to his knees. We lived in Walnut Creek In 1962 until 1973. During that time he and his family built a multi story bank building on Newel Ave. That the Hippy came out and put a LARGE Lighted peace symbol on the top story. At night if I did not draw my blackout shades I would see this sign through the bedroom window. So did a lot of other people. He had so much money and influence that we were never able to get the sign down, until the family sold the building. He is the same arrogant person now as he was then . As far as I can tell he still has his own agenda, he is just hiding it better.
