I don't know of anyone else in the Tri-Valley doing any serious rainwater harvesting. I have 5600 above ground capacity with 2500 for laundry and 3100 for a drought tolerant yard. I'm planning to add a third 1550 barrel to the yard side because of low rainfall last year. This is something so easy to do even for the DIY that I don't know why it isn't being done more.

I hired a company in Oakland to install my systems and plant the front lawn. They are very good but very expensive and very busy, because they have almost no competition. This is an easy business to get started in, so I don't know why more people are not doing it.

I'd like to answer this survey but it is only for Pleasanton residents. I live in San Ramon. You should expand your survey to include all Tri-Valley cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, and Danville. You would probably get much better results.

This is confusing to me, if it is so easy, they why hire someone especially since it is very expensive.

Anyway, you hit the nail on the head. People are not going to do something that is really expensive. Whether we like it or not, most decisions people make are based on finances, so the best way to get people to do something it show it can save them money. Look at recycling, we don't really fine people but charge them for renting the bottle or can, they get that money back when they take it to be recycled. A plan that works pretty well because people can make that decision.
