A childhood friend sent me this about her school district. I told her I wish PUSD could have a foundation like this, instead of a community of some parents who are able but choose not to approve a parcel tax or give more donations to PUSD students. I applaud the community of parents who donated to PPIE and PTA funds, but in reality, it still isn't enough because of some who let others do the donating. Those who can and don't donate choose to spend money on vacations, sports and anything other than towards their child's school district. (Waiting for comments like, "Why don't you move to MB?" or "PUSD doesn't deserve my money" and the same old, "I refuse to pay more taxes." Bring it on. I've heard it all before.) Link below.
"In a 5-0 vote last night, our Board of Trustees approved the expansion of the iPad pilot. Next year, each teacher, more elementary students, and each MB Middle School student will have access to an iPad. Thanks to numerous funding sources, including the PTAs and a generous grant from Chevron, this expansion has no fiscal impact on MBUSD’s general fund. Details available soon."

iPads? You know they are ultimately more expensive than the current textbooks, right?

But I agree, we just don't have the same kind of education foundations that other communities seem to have figured out.

MBUSD has an enrollment of 6,645 students from 2010-2011 data! So small!

Any donations, by my careful mathematical formulations, will only go toward the mounting swell of debt that is created by unionized public school teacher salaries and pensions. I'd donate at least $70 million if I thought it would go to the kids, not the teachers. We're drowning in debt, we're slipping on the porcelien bottom of the bathtub, and the water continues to run. The end is near.
