Surprise, Brown Lied about Fixing Pensions

Original post made by pension watcher, Birdland, on Jun 6, 2012

Remember how Candidate Brown for Governor said that public employee pensions were a big issue and he was going to fix them if elected governor? Proves that he will say anything to get elected.

Governor Jerry Brown has just appointed a labor union representative to be deputy directory of legislative affairs at the Department of Personnel Administration. This appointee has been the legislative director for SEIU Local 1000 since 2009, and comes before the legislature is expected to consider pension changes.

When will the voters learn. If you elect anybody who takes campaign donations from the public employee unions, no matter what the candidate says, they are working for the unions, not for you.

Inviting ALL stakeholders to participate is the key to successful reform, and Brown has done that with this appointment. Your criticism is premature.

I think appointing a union representative as your deputy directory of legislative affairs is completely non-independent (this person will not be negotiating anything that affects current union employees). The unions are already represented by all the democrats who want to keep being elected to office and need the support of the unions.

And if Brown was really serious about pension reform, he would have been doing more serious things with it since in office, being it was one of his highest priorities as a candidate for governor. It has been almost two years and nothing has been done, in fact the problem has gotten worse.

"This appointee has been the legislative director for SEIU Local 1000 since 2009".

Why is Jerry Brown appointing another union leader to a position which is probably only one rung below an appointed position on the CalPERS Board? Don't we already have enough union leadership mascarading as Assembly members, Senators, and administrators in this state?

Real Pension reform wont come from Jerry Brown.

Arnold is right. We need to fill all goverment positions with private sector businessmen who have no interest accept making money for themselves. There more trustworthy than union leaders. Union leaders only make six figure wages and fight to get higher wages for taxpaying workerss. But businessmen make seven and eight figure incomes and are only in it for themsleves. Therefore: businessmen know how to handle our money better then union shills. Also, businessmen will vote against teacher pensions, and so there objective like union leaders can never ever in a thousend years ever be.

Until the state hits rock bottom, nothing will be done to fix the fiscal policies that are driving us to ruin. Perhaps a good start would be for Jerry to meet with Gov. Scott Walker and learn the meaning of intestinal fortitude, I would personally be happy to pay for the trip to Wisconsin.

Need to make sure that people do not vote for additional taxes of any kind. That will just delay the inevitable of hitting rock bottom and forcing the politicians to do something.

Exactly pension watcher. When CEO's make tens of millions a year it is important to take money away from public school teachers who are milking us dry to the bone. The guys I serve in my workplace make over a kool million a year but there flat busted. There broke. Lets' go after the incompitant teachers.

SEIU is the lowest form of life...ignorant, uneducated, sense of entitlement, and greedy. The longtime SEIU leader Andy Stern has a desk in the WhiteHouse !!
This is Jerry's to fix, he, moonbeam, started government unions in CA
30 years ago. However, it was DAVIS who 'broke it' with the naturally exponentially growing in AMOUNTS, LACK of PERSONAL CONTRIBUTIONS, ABSURDLY EARLY REITREMENTS. (as EVERYBODY else is moving to LATER and OLDER). UNsustainable, UNrealistic, excessive

We need to stop and desist all natural exponential growths of unsustainable unfunded liabilities like teacher salaries and unions. Unions are the bain of our existenze. I want to keep my money. Rich people deserve theres. Union teachers are universel sponges that keep bleeding us dry. Drip, drip, drip. We are hemrauging like none other.

Steven is obviously a leader at SEIU or the CTA. Throw out garbage and trying to confuse everybody. Teacher's salaries are not unfunded liabilities. The only rich people I know are retired city workers who at age 50 and 55 have a pension paying what they were being paid when they work, who did not pay for any of the pension costs, get free retiree medical, and then have another just since they are able to work for another 30 years if they want. Those pensions and medical benefits are worth millions of dollars to each employee when you look at the cost over the rest of their life.

The only correct thing that "steven" said was "We need to stop and desist all natural exponential growths of unsustainable unfunded liabilities." Spot on!

Pension watcher, was it steven's spelling or grammatical errors that gave it away? Maybe the union reps should spend more time in the classroom.

Steve, you are right that is one of the clues. Certainly fits the stereotype of a union thug. Does not have a brain so uses other methods.

Sort of like a Woody Allen line: Those who can't do teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym. Those who can't teach gym become union reps.

I think steven is a genius. He may be doesn't spell so hot, but he sure nose what he's talking about. I doubt he's in a union. Let Jerry Fix It is another keddle of fish. Big words. Spelled correctly. No meet, just air. Unions stink.

Off with their heads! Those unionized city workers should have used their heads and gone corporate instead of city. They are what is wrong with America. Them and those rotten teachers. We would all be better off if this were a communist country. Everyone would be working for minimal wages and the government would have all the money. I would like to know what would have happened in the 90s..before the .com bust if the union workers rebelled against the outrageous salaries of corporate America. Oh wait they didn't they just went on their way and did their jobs.
