Who is paying for Obama's Frequent Campaign Trips to California? State, National, International, posted by Dave, a resident of the Birdland neighborhood, on Jun 6, 2012 at 9:44 am
Who is paying for the recent trips to California that Obama is making on his reelection campaign. Specifically, planes, security, lodging, etc. Are we as the taxpayers paying for any of this, or is this coming out of the Democratic campaign funds?

Dave: "However, at the time he was traveling to Texas he was not running for re-election or campaigning."
Yes, and at the time Obama is visiting California, he's not spending long days relaxing by a large pool at his vacation house sipping pina coladas at taxpayer expense for security, communications, and logistic support. I'm sorry, what was your point?

OK, Dave. If you really want a serious answer and are not just trolling, then the article here in the Huffington post gives a lot of answers to the questions about the rules concerning payments for official and unofficial travel by the President:
"There are three types of presidential travel. The first is travel to official White House events, the costs of which are covered by the taxpayer. The second is travel to campaign events, for which the taxpayer covers only the difference between the actual price tag of the trip (the operating cost of Air Force One) and the amount that the campaign is required to pay. "Campaigns have never [covered the full cost]," explained Larry Noble, a longtime campaign finance lawyer in Washington D.C., "because the only other alternative is to say to the president, 'Charter a plane and don't have all the security.' The third type of travel is the hybrid type, the cost of which is covered according to a pre-determined algorithm. As explained by the Congressional Research Service (emphasis ours):"

It's just that Obama has SO MANY REALLY, REALLY RICH supporters in Ca. All Hollywood celebs who also provide 'in-kind' help in so many ways. I guess it's that CA CAMPAIGNING is so far from DC to visit his Silicon Valley BILLIONAIRES and HOLLYWOOD BILLIONAIRES like Clooney, Katsenberg. Of course he's likely making more PROMISES to donors to start another floundering Solyndra, who'll skip out and pocket our tax dollars. Quid pro quo, they give him their money, he gets elected, and pays them back with OUR TAX dollars !!!! whata country ! !

Obama has to fly out to California to press flesh and advance his agenda. Repubs don't because Repub donors don't care who is running on the Repub ticket; it is always the same agenda. Protect the wealthy, slam the working poor. Quid pro quo: Repub donors given Repub whore politicians their money, they get elected, and then the wealthy are given tax breaks which working people are expected to make up for. What a system!

Sam, thanks for your informative reply (finally!). I'm not interested in "trolling", more interested in finding out the facts and reacting to those. Posts that boarder on the ridiculous (in my opinion) that slam either party are not very beneficial for anybody. This country is deeply divided among ideological lines and somehow we seem to think that continue badmouthing of each other is going to solve our problems. I would only desire that each of us verify as much as possible any statements we make and work for a mutually acceptable solution. Then we can cut out the name calling and silly (Iím being polite) responses.

"Two weeks after his last fundraising foray to the Bay Area, President Obama is back Wednesday for a four-hour trip to pick up more than $2 million in San Francisco, prompting Republicans to criticize his many money calls to the region without events that are open to the public. California Gov. Jerry Brown, former Democratic National Committee Chair Tim Kaine and baseball legend Willie Mays, who will introduce the president, are expected to be among the crowd at the sold-out luncheon for Obama at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in the Merchants Exchange Building on California Street."
