I applaud the school district in their attempt to try and control drug use on our high school campuses. Unfortunately, for those youth who are the heavy users, for them it's a game, they know to park their cars off campus.
Another waste of government dollars because of the limitations that are allowed. WHY would one be so foolish as to leave the drugs in the car when they know IT can be searched but the individual cannot. Every student says the same thing.....the kids just carry it in their backpacks now. It's like the cat and mouse game.....except who is the cat and who is the mouse? I cannot imagine why any parent would be against drug sniffing dogs searching the campus and all its occupants. Don't you want to know if your child is using or selling drugs? Don't you want to know if your child's teacher is a drug user and possible provider. I just don't get what happened to common sense and ethics.
Wow a knife.... I'm sure he was JUST ABOUT to stab up the school...(sarcasm)
Cast that wide net Pleasanton, see what you get.
No drugs, a false identification by the dog, and now a kid with no drugs is in trouble for what is probably an innocent little knife locked away safely in the car. A perfect example of failure of the pitfalls of the new policy, and you can save your comments on preventing knife fights at school in the name of public safety.
Maybe he fishes? Maybe he is in boy scouts or 4h? Either way, you can bet he is screwed now, and maybe for college, too.
Perhaps your child can be next, all it takes is a false positive from a police dog, and a little fishing knife.
Better yet, it was probably a butter knife for putting jam and margarine on toast or bagel left in the car on the way to school.
come on people...school administrators working with the police~hmmm..is that a bad thing? geez, do you want drugs and or small little knives at school? what was the kid carrying a knife in his car for? to schmear his bagel he got from Noah's?
let the admin and the cops do their jobs and shut up... this is not a bad thing, its a good thing that will protect children and hopefully deter kids from bringing their drug stash to school. my oh my, lets get in an uproar about it.
How was this considered a "Success" ? We'll we got another "Knife" off the mean streets of Pleasanton.. ! Where's the positive side of this ? How about at least nobody was arrested for the Drugs they came to find in the first place ? And what is the benefit of nobody seeing the dogs doing their job.. ? How typical, their not finding what they were looking for in the first place so they change the focus to a kid having a knife in the car, and calling the search a success.
It's worth pointing out that the dog got a hit on this car, meaning that some kind of drug had probably been in it in the recent past.
It's not as if police went looking for a knife. They had probable cause to open the car when the dog smelled whatever it smelled.
We've got to move from searching cars to searching backpacks and pantspockets. The goverment is too incompitant to do what is needed. Which is to strip search every kid every day before and after classes. But the mighty lord dictator Obama doesn't really want to catch anybody. The dogs are just for show and at taxpayer expense. Like Bin Laden. Anybody believe that? Well, if you do, I've got a Haweyeian "birth certificate" I could happily sell you.
It's incompetent, not incompitant.
mighty lord dictator Obama should be Mighty Lord Dictator Obama, but he's actually the legally elected president (unlike a certain Shrub).
It's Hawaiian, not Haweyeian.
Are you illiterate or are you deliberately mocking the TEA party?
Okay, I didn't use my spellcheck. Big deal. Spelling is for loosers anyway. All you liberal loons can do is snarkily snip about spelling. But you never want to engage the real issues. You're all empty hats.
No, it's not worth pointing out the dog got a positive hit on the car... IN FACT, apparently the dog might have got a false positive on the car.. That's what's more important.. Steve, your a moron... ( Strip search the Students ) ? whenever something negative is posted in the paper you go blaming the Dark Lord Obama... and the Liberals.. lol Guess what ? He's our President Now, and everyone except wimps like you have stopped going on about the Birthing thing... and until someone else better runs, YOU"R going probably going to have to cry about him for another four years... so pull your shorts out of you asscrack and get used to it.. How about we hold the parents responsible for the searching and focus on teaching at the schools ? Spelling is for Losers ...? (Loosers) I'd love to actually meet you sometime Steve... I'm sure your not a 'Looser" !
a person or thing that loses or has lost something, esp. a game or contest.
• a person who accepts defeat with good or bad grace, as specified : we won fair and squarethey should concede that and be good losers.
If Romney doesn't pervail in November its because elitist loons like yourself who want to follow the Dark Lord down the path to socialism are to stupid to know how to vote.
Spelling and grammar are important because they make it easier for others to read and understand your message. I'm not a liberal but I love grammar and spelling.
As for the dogs: kids will not be leaving drugs in their cars, especially after this episode. If the drugs are being sold at school, they will not be sold from cars or lockers. Kids are smart.
Margarine? who the hell uses margarine in pleasanton?
Strip search? Thats a violation of rights! @ steve i am also conservative but you need to support the president we have now and learn to cope with some of the choices that he makes. Strip searching is absolutley ludacris and shouldn't be done to a bunch of high school students.
Isn't it great to live in a police state? People will justify why anything is ok with them.
Thank you, Josh, for pointing out that respecting the rule of law means that we can criticize a sitting president's policies, but still need to cope with the choices he makes as the elected chief executive of the United States.
PS: Wikipedia says Ludacris is also known as Christopher Brian Bridges, but the adjective you were probably aiming for is spelled"ludicrous" and means "so foolish, unreasonable, or out of place as to be amusing."
Not only is the idea of strip-searching high school students before an arrest ludicrous, it is also outrageous and absolutely a violation of civil rights.
This is a complete and utter joke. The fact that these are DRUG searching dogs...DRUG..what does a knife have anything to do with that statement? I know the victim of this unconstitutional crime personally and it was a fishing knife, A FISHING KNIFE (CAPS LOCK FOR EMPHASIS). These cases of "findings" are all false positives either created by the dog handler, most likely on first offenders of drug paraphernalia, which in this case was. Stop the infringing of our rights and get educated.

The "knife" may not have been a weapon but a multi-use tool, now another student has been turned into a felon. I am sorry for the nightmare that another family and young person is living. A multi-use tool in a glovebox is a reasonable thing unless the car is parked on a school campus where it becomes a felony.
Below is my post made in Dec.

Be careful what you wish for when giving away your child's civil liberties.
It does not help that a student at a PUSD high school was found to be innocent of a false allegation. The false allegation gave school administration the excuse they wanted to search the student's vehicle. A multi-use-tool that is primarily a screwdriver and pliers but has a small fold out army knife blade was in the glove box. This innocent tool that I put in all family members Xmas stockings (surprise, a felony on a school campus even when locked in a car glovebox) began a nightmare that has not ended. The draconian abuse of power is truly frightening.
To all parents who think their child innocent with nothing to fear.... think again.
I too would like all drugs off school campuses, but I could never support this action having lived our nightmare.
