VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS?
Schools & Kids, posted by Anonymous, a resident of the Vintage Hills Elementary School neighborhood, on May 16, 2012 at 7:05 am

Does anyone know of a good organization that has volunteer opportunities for elementary school children? My child has been interested in helping the hungry and poor for a while now, but hasnt been able to find things that are appropriate for her age. (I would of course be there as a helper and chaperone.)

Please no snarky remarks about Obama, the GOP, etc., as we are serious. Thank you!

Try the Valley Humane Society. My son is nine and we volunteer weekly.

I think it's so wonderful your child wants to volunteer. Our kids help with the Happy Talkers programs. They are always looking for typically developing kids to help with the special needs children.

My friend's daughter is 10 years old. This is the age when kids are allowed to volunteer at animal shelters. So, she asked her parents to take her to the shelter on her 10th birthday.

If you and your child like outdoors, you can contact EBRPD for volunteer opportunities.

This won't help you this year... but check the Pleasanton Activities Guide you get in the mail. Look in the "Camps Section" page 6. Read about Camp Character. Last I checked we were full with a waiting list. I hope to teach it again next summer. We'd love to have your child join us then.
